Edmunds Cayman/991 perspective

Race Car
Wonderful collection of cliches. Such crap is totally unnecessary. The Cayman is just a superb Porsche. Needs no excuses or 991 bashing.
Fact is, ninety-five percent of Cayman will also see more duty trundling in traffic than thrashing on a track.
Porsche marketing triumphs again!

I don't understand why a reviewer can't just do a positive review of the Cayman (which it absolutely deserves) without denigrating the 911 (which it doesn't deserve.) I'm a former 987 Cayman S owner now driving a 991. I got to take a short test drive in a new 981 Cayman last week and it's a brilliant car as expected.
Weirdly, I too have come to believe the vestigial rear seats of the 911, which I always pooh-poohed before actually add a whole lot to its everyday usage and practicality. I think they're both great alternatives to the Porsche experience with ever so subtle pros and cons.

Damn, I take my 911 to the track while I could be attracting gorgeous women instead. I totally missed that!!! Like one of my friends says, tracking the 911 is the most fun you can have with your pants on. Now if you can have fun with your pants off too, it only confirms the great dual personality of the 991

Based on what I have seen, if the Edmunds reviewer insists to bring women into the discussion, the opposite might be true.
A guy might be better off use the Cayman to attract women, but once he succeeds, and offsprings are made, willingly or not, he might be forced to get a 911 to fit them in. Or he could be broke for paying alimony and child support.
Jokes aside, there is truth to the complaint that Porsche will not want Cayman to out perform 911. What is not true is the cost disparity.
Porsche offers much better leases for 911, the real world cost of driving either the Cayman or the 911 is not as big as they imagine.
I will soon have the opportunity to push both a new 911 and a new Cayman close to the limit on the track, will see if they are correct about straights and bends.

Got it. So the "911" badge is what is called the chick magnet option. Lol

Women generally have no idea what is what. You can pull just as many in with a c300 mercedes. Case and point after talking about my 991 for weeks, when the day came to pick it up my girl asked me if I needed a ride to the ferrari dealership. I said sure are you planning on buying me a ferrari? Isn't that what you are getting? Not yet I said.

The Cayman is a great car. The 911 is a great car. The "useless rear seats" and the fact that Porsche makes fantastic sports cars (is that just a prestige issue now?) were fairly important factors to me, and yes, the 911 history and some handling quirks are actually appealing too.
As (fake) Sean Connery might say, "Suck it, Edmund's. Suck it looong. Suck it hard." What a useless article that was clearly just written to get page hits...

In fairness, I bought my Cayman, and 2 weeks later I met my wife. That said, she really doesn't care about cars in the slightest. But still, an interesting, though useless, data point. :-)

Basically Porsche makes class leading cars in every segment they are active in !

Aside from the fact the writer was clearly trying to draw attention to the article with some not so funny comments, the single point is still valid.
Porsche could have easily designed the Cayman to outperform 911 in every conceivable performance category, because the Cayman platform is capable of such. This situation goes beyond the argument that "the two cars are for different purposes".
From the performance standpoint, there is no reason the Cayman should stay behind 911, other than 911 is legendary and flagship, Porsche does not want to upset that balance.
Everything else said in that article can be disputed though.
