Wheels are heavy. Especially the Sport Techno's. Thanks for the info, always wondered what the Sport Techno's weighed. For some reason I thought it might've been the lightest of the bunch.

No problem at all. 4lbs is a bit more.. but all things considered.... I dont think it makes much difference in the long run. If we were talking competitively on a track... then that would be a different story.

Thanks for this posting. Interesting.

Of course when evaluating unsprung weight, you have to take all items into consideration, like tires for example. According to Michelin, the 295/30 R20 tire alone weighs 30lbs.

From a BMW discussion forum I just perused, most aftermarket 20 x 11 inch wheels weigh in the 25-26lb range.

Porsche does make a point about the 50% weight savings of the ceramic brakes vs standard, stating the reduction of unsprung weight improves handling and ride quality.

Don't forget the Sport Techno wheel is 1/2" wider than the others hence it should be a little heavier. It is not a "Forged" wheel as many think.

Does anyone know the actual weight savings of the ceramic brakes vs the standard brakes?

If so, we could get a feeling for what Porsche actually states is a significant weight savings at the axle to achieve a measure of improved handling and ride quality.

20” Carrera S Wheel is around 1lb heavier than OZ Superleggera HLT. I'd say its fairly light for a non-forged wheel. To have any significant weight savings you need to go forged, which should save around 3-4lb per wheel.
Also, one thing to keep in mind that if you go down to 19's for track use, you can lose some wheel weight, but gain tire weight. Actually, a tire, such as T888 is several lbs heavier than a 19 or 20" rim.

Thanks a million. I've been searching for this all over. I'm surprised that there is only 1 lbs diff between the 19" and the Carrera S. Also surprised that the techno is the heaviest.

I don't know the exact weight different, but I'm fortunate to be able to compare the two cars back to back recently.

Both 991 base carrera, pasm, sc, ptv plus, 20" carrera s wheels, factory Pirelli tires, same tire pressures. Car with no pccb has power steering plus, steel sunroof, and is MY2012. The one with pccb (MY2013, glass sunroof, no psp) has NO "bouncy" feeling at all on uneven road surface (at all speed), about 10% more comfort, spools and fells a LOT lighter throughout rpm range, especially when cornering. Definately worth the price Porsche is asking for

Thanks for that subjective eval of the improved feel of the car with ceramic brakes, pyramid.

Now all we need to know to duplicate that improvement in feel due to the reduction in unsprung weight is the actual weight reduction in lbs or kgs!

Tech art states their new 991 20 inch rears weigh 24 lbs. FYI. They look cool as well. That saves almost 4 lbs over porsche factory's lightest wheels.

I wish BBS FI made one in 20" to fit regular carreras.

Wow those fi's are 20lbs for 19x12!

The new all carbon fiber wheels have them beat though at 18 lbs. That is a ten pound per wheel reduction in unsprung weight over the lightest Porsche factory offering.

Couple that with ceramic brakes and titanium lug nuts.

Anyone know how much regular steel lugs weigh vs Tikore titanium?

From what I have found online, the ceramic brakes cut between 8-10 lbs off per wheel. Those articles from edmunds and car and driver. Also confirmed ten lbs lighter from a thread on pccb in the GT2/3 forum. Guy actually shows them on the scale compared to steel.

If this is true, ceramics plus carbon fiber cuts nearly twenty lbs off the unsprung weight per wheel and 80lbs total off the car. Pretty impressive reductions.
