2014 Stingray

I don't know a lot about Corvettes, and just saw the news about the new Corvette Stingray. It's a nice looking car. They are saying it's a direct competitor to the 911, and will be better in a lot of aspects (interior, 0-60, etc). Is anyone considering this car at all? While the 911 is the only car for me, I do give respect to other nice cars regardless of what house they belong to. Cheers.

Just my opinion, but to me it looks as if it was styled by the same people that draw anime cartoons, and the interior is still ugly.

I found the following to be outstanding. In the first note how many design considerations are identical with Porsches. In the second, there are references to the 991 performance as a goal. Face it the Vette and the 991 are equal in many many ways. Would love to see an interview this detailed on the 991.

warning- takes an hour but is prime gear head stuff.

Reminds me of Jerry Seinfeld's take on the then-new Carrera GT: "Its not the new benchmark. Its the new bench."

I watched those earlier today while hiding in my office...

There is more to a great sports car than 0 to 60 times. I had 5 corvettes one that I restored from the ground up. The other 4 I bought new. The first one A 63 i drove for 15 years.
The last was a 87. The problem was that it had a 40 ft turning radius. The new Vette has a longer wheel base than the last one. What is the turning radius? I am not a fan of longer wheelbase cars. They may be great for the track but I drive my cars on the street. I want nimble , fun to drive, and go like a raped ape. The Vette will do the last but what about the other 2. I'll just have to test drive one to see.

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Lightweight engine, lightweight body parts, electric steering, very familiar styling. What do you think?

Those who believe the Corvette and 911 are competitors have obviously never driven a 911. Not knocking the GM product; unbeatable bang for the buck, but I don't know anyone who ever had the buying process narrowed down to a choice between the two. The cars are from different planets.

Actually, Corvettes have been as light as 911s and about the same length for some time now.

I thought the engineering details in the interview would likely have been very similar if the subject was the 991, particularly the parts about engineering specific feel into the car and dialing out harshness.

I bet owners of C6s will complain the new car has lost the sports car feel and is too smooth and GT like, that the electric steering is a disaster and the entire car is for wusses (or 991 fans).

One thing it accomplishes- no one will say anything bad about the 991 rear end after seeing the Vette.

The car looks much better in silver than the car-show red ...

It looks like a concept car that never got "un-conceptualized."

I too think the new Stingray is gorgeous, especially from the front and front 3/4 view. The back is too derivative of the Camaro. I think the upgraded interior is attractive, and am very impressed with the output of the 6.2L small block. Can't wait to drive it and compare/contrast with my GT3. Two different philosophies and radically different designs, certainly, but I will bet the performance specs between the 'vette and the 911S are comparable.
