Default PCM Sound Quit

Great car. Shame usually only the negative gets posted. Went to lunch today. Turned on the ignition and out of the blue no stereo sound.

Phone sound via bluetooth worked fine but not music. However, no radio sound. No CD sound. After a few minutes, I could no longer access the media screen but could get into the radio screen.

Mute button of course was not engaged. Turned the unit on and off a few times and no change in outcome.

Anyone know how to do a system reboot on the PCM? PCM manual was no help.

That's funny sounds like you spend a lot of time on the 997 forum.

I don't. I probably didn't get the joke. Sorry. Anyway, I went out to the car a few minutes ago. Was going to try something lame like pulling the fuse or whatever like I know what I'm doing when I don't. Before I could do anything it again works perfectly. Weird as hell. Hope it doesn't happen again.

I am afraid it probably has Microsoft operating system! And you are correct I did not get the joke.
When shopping I drove 2 - 997.2's C2S, one manual one automatic. A TT 997.1 and then a 991 C2S. My uninformed impression was that as I stepped forward in time the car became more refined. Some think that is a bad thing, go figure. I like the car, I just wish winter was not creeping up on us.

I'm with you. I moved up from a 997. The 991 is far superior in every way I can think of; it was certainly worth it, although the 997 was also a great vehicle. I certainly never felt a picosecond of buyer's remorse with the 991.

I've had this once before, tried fiddling for a few minutes, got bored and left it. Used the car the next day and it was fine..... Strange but at least not a big problem

Holminator, has it come back to life? I have had this happen on other cars that use the MOST framework. I was told by an MB tech that when the system starts up it sends a wakeup call to all devices on the network. Sometimes one of them pushes the snooze button. Anyway, this used to happen a couple of time a year in an MB I had. As Chance says shut the car down and get the computer to go to sleep then restart. On some cars this can take 30 minutes (MBs). Don't know about Porsche.

Thanks. It worked about 30 minutes later. Heading to dealer on Friday. They want to check for error codes, but PCM sound is working fine now. Been lucky with my MB then; I didn't know they had that issue.

I've never heard of this. Any pointers? The Googles do nothing.

Dealer found no fault and the PCM is running flawlessly. Actually seems to operate a tiny bit faster than before. Oh well.

Hello, I'm new on this discussion forum. I was searching for an answer for my brand new 911 991 Targa 4 going quiet on me today. This morning all worked fine driving to the office, even listened to some music by the PCM and Apple Car Play system. This afternoon I headed home and nothing... No music, no navigation direction, no phone carkit,... I've tried to restart a couple of times. Closed the car and opened it again.
Looked at all possible settings and noticed that the sound settings are greyed out in the PCM, like the system is muted? The damn car is only 2 months old and now this happens? I sent a mail to the dealership and hope I will be able to pop in with them on saturday.

i've had it happen to me a handful of times. It's usually the radio that doesnt have sound come out but the other media works fine and navi works fine.

It comes back on after a restart but I haven't purposefully restarted it to get the sound on. I just wait until I need to restart it.

press and hold Info and Sound buttons together for about 10-15 seconds. It will reboot.
