Front end very noisy
Bringing my 991 'S' back to the dealer (Jack Daniels in NJ) next week for two recalls and now I going to add a very noisy front end to the list of repairs. When I cut the wheels to pull out of the driveway or even out of a parking spot the car's front end makes thumping noises and sounds like a 10 year old car with bad CV joints. Add this to the front trunk seal recall and the AC system recall and I'm not a happy camper.
Drove my Boxster for almost 12 years with nothing more than an occasional oil change and a few sets of new tires. My new 911 is not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Anyone else experiencing this noisy front end problem?

Yes the noise in the front end is normal. Someone else asked the question very recently. I browsed around but was not able to find the mention. I believe the answer is that the wheels are allowed to turn further then most cars and the geometry makes them skip a little.
I would say don't let buyers remorse get a hold of you relax and enjoy. It is a great car.

PS - At a recent cars n coffee there was a Vette owner who had gone from C5 to a C6 (100 Aniv. GS) asking about the same issue with his brand new pride and joy- and getting the same answer from the Vette crowd.

I'm willing to cut the manufacturer some slack when they proactively recall the car to fix bugs instead of letting the customer discover them. They're only required to recall for safety-related issues, and that's all that many manufacturers do.
I had a lot of early-production grief with my previous P-car (a 1992 968) but it was worth it once everything was sorted out. IMHO it's best to expect trouble and then be happily surprised if there is little/none. At low production volumes, the customer is always the beta tester, whether we like it or not.

What kind of noise? I have a 997 and just ordered a 991. Never noticed anything on my 997 but some tire noise. I'm concerned with what the 991 might have that I need to be prepared for.

I think the noise he described is tire nibble (from the square edges of max width rubber) at full lock at slow speeds.

I've got to be honest. I don't buy the it's normal argument. For what these cars cost and for what they are supposed to be... at a minimum it's sloppy engineering.
It may by acceptable on a govt motors 70K Vette, but not on a 120k Porsche. Just my .02.
On another more positive note. I hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving.
