Default One thing on the new 911s thats just not Porsche??!!

When you look at the 911, there is ONE thing it doesnt need. THere is one thing about this car that is SO clear, that there IS no question about what it is.
Of ALL things that this car doesnt need is
PORSCHE
911 Carrera S

It DOESNT need Porsche, It doesnt need 911 I dont think it needs Carrera.

OF ALL cars, even over Ferrari there is no other car that is so INSTANTLY recognizable as the 911. Why take such a well designed rear end then clutter it up with all that script. The only thing it needs is nothing or an S or a 4S or a 4
and thats it.

Ditto!

"Carrera S" would suffice for me.

Thinking about doing that myself eventually.

You know when you order one you can have it as you wish, but I am talking about ones showing up on the the showroom floor.

^^ Those emblems are cheap, I replaced the whole thing in the back for just PORSCHE 911, I like it.

It really is a matter of opinion, just like anything else about a Porsche. Personally, I like the script, and like the look of it on all of my Porsches.

They had to put Porsche on the back because the 991 looks a lot like the JAg XK from the rear.

I thought I was coming up on a 991 the other day, and as I got closer realized it was a new XKR... and I own a 911.

Or not. Just a nod to tradition.

Totally agree the car looks great without it. Something I've been thinking of more and more, and more seriously too as the odds of ordering one have been growing.

To those of us absorbed in every detail of the 911 its a quantum step in design, but to the average person its just the newest model 911. And even that's not quite right, since the AVERAGE person thinks 911 is a DATE not a CAR!

To the true Porschephile, accustomed to discerning millimetric modulations in exterior dimensions, the 991 is immediately recognizable from any perspective. This is child's play. These people also will never confuse a 4 with a 2- and almost always tag the S as an S not the base model. These are the people who know (for example) that its the front center radiator and not the exhaust tips that distinguish X-51 equipped cars. These are the people I care about- and they (as Mel Brooks would say) don't need no steenking badges!

The other folks, the ones who don't know- well who cares??

And yes the car definitely does look better bare. I've seen a couple in traffic and there can be no doubt- nothing at all is best.

On the other hand though I must admit there is one argument for the badging. Dochusar touches on it with his comment that he likes the look of it "on all my Porsches" and the argument is, in a word: tradition. History. A history that in this case represents the single most successful model and manufacturer in automotive history. In all that time those 8 letters in that golden font have held constant- as true as the Porsche drive for performance perfection. And that is one hell of a good reason.

So admittedly I am of two minds: the car doesn't need it, but it IS Porsche!

I am ambivalent about it but I think model delete only deletes the "911 Carerra S" not the "Porsche" or you can just have 911 under Porsche. Either way I thought it looked a bit bare so for me it was all or none and as you can't have none it was all!
