'Sport Classic Grey' as PTS on a 981 Spyder...
From the 981 forum...but a curious development that should be reported
here!

Donavan: Let me first say that I am very happy for you. So by
reading in between the lines, you are telling us that your PTS 981
Spyder will also be 'Sport Classic Grey', color code 63A! Congratulations!

For those that might not keep up with the 'bizarro' world of Porsche
'exclusive' colors, 'Sport Classic Grey' was introduced for the Limited
Edition '911 Sport Classic' that PAG brought out in ROW back in MY2010.
http://press.porsche.com/news/release.php?id=499
And that exact color was never allowed to be duplicated via PTS...
until a lucky VIP 918 Spyder owner got the approval in 2015.
And now, Gerald & Donovan are telling us that this color has been done
for some 981 Spyder clients...even thought 'Sport Classic Grey' does not
appear yet on the approved PTS list last revised by PAG on Nov 17th, 2015!
****
Personally, I think we should know how some folks were tipped-off
that 'Sport Classic Grey', color code 63A, was possible to do when
that information was not available to 99% of the Porsche customers.
And don't give me 'Melissa is my friend' line, because EVERY Porsche
customer, in theory, is Melissa's 'friend' too & she can't afford to play
'favorites' in her capacity as a representative of 'Porsche Exclusive' in
the US. I am having a hard time understanding how keeping the
information that 'Sport Classic Grey' was available but not allowed to
be widely known is justified since it puts the majority of Porsche's PTS
customers at an unfair disadvantage not knowing that such a color was
also available to them.

Can you please tell us who told you the color on this 981 Spyder was
'Sport Classic Grey'. As you know that color is not on the approved

Spyder in 2015. We just need to clarify these matters so that we
know where the information is coming from & we have confirmation

I asked him that the color is not on the PTS list and he told me that it has been locked about 5 years and opened in late summer/fall last year.
The color looks very nice and has not that shade of beige like Fashion Grey.

The curious appearance of 'Sport Classic Grey' in the PTS & what it could signify...
We received news this week that up to 3 folks at Rennlist will be getting
their 981 Spyders in 'Sport Classic Grey'. Here is the photo of the first
one belonging to 997sc in Germany:
'Sport Classic Grey' was an 'exclusive' color introduced for the
Limited Edition '911 Sport Classic' that PAG brought out in ROW
back in MY2010.
http://press.porsche.com/news/release.php?id=499
And that exact color was never allowed to be duplicated via PTS,
regardless how many times it was requested by other customers,
until a lucky VIP 918 Spyder owner got the approval in 2015!
The curious thing about this story is that these MY2016 981s in
'Sport Classic Grey' were approved in late Summer/early Fall 2015
by PAG for PTS even thought that color does NOT yet appear on
the official PAG-distributed 'approved' PTS list. The last such list
circulated among dealers by PAG is dated Nov. 17th, 2015.
So I asked some of the principals that broke the story here on
Rennlist how 'Sport Classic Grey' for PTS came about. And I
have been given the following two explanations for it by them:
First from Gerald in Germany who was recently at Zuffenhausen
& he is in the process of taking shortly delivery of his own 'Signal
Green' 981 Spyder:
Eduardo,
Last friday i've been in Zuffenhausen with RL member Porsche Jeck

Gerald
Ludwigsburg,Germany
And this second one from Donavan, who is soon to take delivery
his 'Sport Classic Grey' 981 Spyder in the United States:
Eduardo,
As you know until recently Sport Classic Grey was
strictly prohibited due to the 2010 Exclusive Limited
911 Sport Classic. I happen to discover the availability
when I inquired about the difference between Fashion,
Arrow, Grigio Campovolo and Sport Classic Grey with
Porsche Exclusive. I was informed that Sport Classic
Grey is not on the official PTS list, and is only available
if a customer specifically requests it directly through
the Porsche Exclusive. So far I know of 3 PTS Sport
Classic Grey 981 Spyders, 2 in Europe and mine. I'm
sure there are others out there.
****
So what to make of this unorthodox manner in which 'Sport Classic Grey'
has finally been allowed to be ordered via PTS at Porsche? Why didn't the
'Porsche Exclusive' staff in Europe & the US informed everyone else that
this color was available? And why isn't this once-exclusive color included
in the official approved PTS list since it's indeed available to any customer?
****
While you ponder the troubling answers to these questions, let me throw
out an interesting thought that came to me as to what this development
could also signify for the PTS program:
Could perhaps every other color tested & approved for the VIP 918
customers, of which 'Sport Classic Grey' was but one example, be
also available for PTS if any customer demands it from PAG today?
Here is the list of PTS colors that were approved for the 918 Spyder
according to one of our Rennlister (Larryf) who is in the know:
And we also know of these other PTS colors done for the 918 Spyder:
****
So dear Rennlisters & all Porsche customers that are interested in PTS.
Caveat emptor! There is a bit of 'organized chaos' right now in the
PTS program as it's being run by Porsche. You can't even rely on
the official approved PTS list (even if you can get your hands or eyes
on it since it's now officially classified as 'For Internal Use Only -
Confidential') to be certain of all the colors that PAG will allow SOME
to do on the upcoming 982 & 991.2 as well as the existing PTS orders
already approved for 981 Spyders, 991 gt3 RS and Cayman gt4s!
Thus, it would not surprise me if we see some other 'Sport Classic Grey'
in a .1 991 gt3 RS and/or .1 981 Cayman gt4 since production of PTS
for those vehicles is just getting under way. And then, what about the
possibility of some 'RS Orange / 8C6' (retired after MY2010), or true
'Acid Green', or 'Pure Blue' (formerly exclusive to the 997 Speedster)?
Inquiring minds want to know!
For years now, we have been trying to unravel the mystery of PTS via
these threads to make it more understandable & transparent to Porsche
customers & enthusiasts the world over. And, if the number of views
these threads have received & the PM's sent to me are an indication
of the interest & progress we have made in unraveling the mysteries
of PTS at Porsche, this development sadly throws us backwards a few
steps!

Just Delivered
I took delivery of a new 2016 Turbo S Cabriolet Porsche Exclusive 2 weeks ago. It is Carrera White Metallic with Natural leather in Garnet Red. Every part of the interior is wrapped in leather. It also has some carbon fiber. The black accent in the seats and exterior trim give the car a great look with the white.
This is my 5th Porsche 911. The last was a 2011 GT3 RS which I tracked. It was time to take it off the track and get into something that is more of a daily drive.

A repost from the 991 gt3 forum in which I try to make the point
(once again) that photographs often don't really tell the truth about
a color & you need to see it in person! This new RS might be any
one of the various PTS 'grey' available: 'Fashion Grey', 'Sport Classic
Grey', 'Grigio Telesto', etc.
**
Same RS. One exterior color. Three different photos of same RS
which seems to show three different 'colors'. Which once again
proves that you can't rely on photographs to evaluate a color
(varies too much depending on camera lenses, filters, light, etc).
You need to see a color in person to truly decide if you like it!
I think it's impossible to determine the actual color of this RS after
seeing these three photos of the same car!

'Arrow Blue' vs 'Maritime Blue'
A repost from another thread on the 991 gt3 forum. But it gives

and 'Maritime Blue' and document it in reference threads:

Congratulations Steven on your beautiful new 'Maritime Blue' .1 991 gt3 RS!

Here is 'Arrow Blue' as PAG recently agreed to do it for a 918 Spyder customer:

I think on closer analysis, Scott, you might conclude that 'Maritime Blue'
& 'Arrow Blue' are NOT very similar. 'Maritime' has a tendency to turn
from 'dark blue' to 'medium blue' to 'lavender' in the most unique of ways!

Why the damn mystery re: the PTS color in Monroney Sticker & P-dealer websites?
An exchange from a thread in the 991 gt3 forum, but which might
be of interest to readers here!
*************************
***
***
No, you can't tell the exact color from what
is posted at the link. I have always found
curious (& odd) that PAG/PCNA & their dealers
do not list the actual color name of a PTS
vehicle in either the Monroney sticker or in
the basic information found in their dealer's
websites. For example, here is what you see
when you click on the OP's link:
***
All Porsche needs to do is to continue to list the following:
But also add the PTS color name in parenthesis.
e.g. (Fashion Grey) or (Sport Classic Grey)
or whatever the PTS color is by the name that PAG
has approved for the hue after its feasibility study
was concluded.
***
Why the damn mystery? How many times have we wondered
what the color is of a PTS new car listed at a P-dealer? And
how many dealers have often mischaracterized a color of their
PTS cars? In fact, it was McKenna two years ago that insisted
in calling a 991 4S coupe they received 'Signal Orange' when
that color has not been approved yet for PTS. The car was in
fact 'Signal Yellow'!

Looks like PTS may start showing up.

is posted at the link. I have always found
curious (& odd) that PAG/PCNA & their dealers
do not list the actual color name of a PTS
vehicle in either the Monroney sticker or in
the basic information found in their dealer's
websites. For example, here is what you see
when you click on the OP's link:

All Porsche needs to do is to continue to list the following:
But also add the PTS color name in parenthesis.
e.g. (Fashion Grey) or (Sport Classic Grey)
or whatever the PTS color is by the name that PAG
has approved for the hue after its feasibility study
was concluded.

PTS 'Green' MY2015 gt3 available for a very good price!
This much we know. It is not one of the ten late allocation
MY2015 gt3's done in 'Signal Green'. Much earlier VIN # &
built in 9/2014. So it had to be (for example) for a customer
that ordered a PTS 2014 gt3 and it was pushed into an early
MY2015 production allocation (& keeping his/her PTS status).

As for the color, it could indeed be just 'Green' or '2D8'. That
is the color specially formulated for the 2007/2008 .1 997 gt3
RS, which is still a popular PTS color.
The dealer should know. There is a sticker (as you know) which
list the color and it should be attached to the car at some location.

I think the price is a steal for this car with only 546 miles:

It should move quickly!
