PCNA gave me a case number and a "specialist" to deal with. Porsche tightened the shock strut and it kept coming loose. The lady at PCNA advised me that they drove many "s" models at the dealer and in Atlanta and they all had the clunk. They did not get anything on the regular Carrera models. Their conclusion is that the clunk is "normal". BS! I do think I am being given a runaround and will continue to pursue with Porsche and other dealers.

alsab44, please let me know the result of your trip to the dealer. This is definitely not "normal" and should not occur in a $130K car. I have the sport chrono package, don't know if that should make a difference, but it happens in normal mode as well as sport.

This is not "just a noise" this is a valuation issue
Think of trying to resell our cars or even to trade back to the Porsche dealer, in either case this noise would lower the value of our cars

My guess i there will be a TSB on this. It may be normal, but it is not intended in the design.

It was not a completely new strut, just the top section which apparently connected to or contained a bearing, from what the service guy told me. I do not know the precise details of exactly what part they replaced. Yes the problem was fixed. Mine was not a clunk, but a squeeking noise. It may not be the same fault that you are experiencing.

Sounds like a design issue to me...........oops on Porsche engineering........Porsche will have to have a fix for this, I hope for you all.........just hope they don't treat it like the 996/997.1 IMS/RMS debacle that lasted 10 years.....and never fixed 100%............for the $ 100K plus money paid these days for a 911...........NO EXCUSE floats at all........play hard ball with them........and get the problem fixed.........it is not normal........

As I said in my previous post I took my 991s in last week for this issue.
I picked it up on Friday and at this point it I would say it is fixed. Very pleased.
They said they replaced the strut if I get any more info I will post it
I love this car but that noise was ruining my enjoyment of the car.

My latest from Porsche is that the clunk is a shock bottoming out on the speed bumps. They suggested using the "sport chassis" setting and that has helped (as well as going over the bumps slower). But it seems to me to be a design problem. Shocks should not bottom out that easily. I am waiting for the "official" word from Porsche and will advise all when I do. I'm glad that some of you got a resolution with a part replacement.

Assuming this problem is limited to cars with PASM (ie: Carrera S or base with PASM).. it is either ..

A) A design flaw ie: software in the PASM that is a bit stupid.. keeps the travel long enough in comfort mode to allow the shocks to bottom out.

B) They have a large batch of PASM shocks outside of specs that conform to the software controlling them. That would explain the cars on the dealer lots if they are being truthful.

C) You have a non conforming shock.

If many people are indeed having this problem then it is probably some combination of A or B. Either way dont hold your breath for a recall. PCNA will fix it when they get around to it.

As I posted above, they changed the strut and mine is completely fixed.
Mine was not from speed bumps it was any bump, dip or whatever.

I have a 991 Normal with stock suspension. PDK, Sport Chrono. Have same clunk most of the time in right front when doing a U-turn and when I cross the curb into my driveway. Asked a service advisor in Orlando and he did not know what I was talking about. Is this a safety issue?

Any of you guys had this suspension clunk issue solved?
I had stock struts with Eibach springs on it, but after recent visit to Vegas from LA, both front strut bearings went bad.
When changing bearings, struts were also changed to Bilstein PSS10.
Since then, I began to hear intermittent clunk from passenger side suspension area.
Noises seemed coming from ear level, so first I've sprayed bit of WD40 at strut mount and lots of noise were gone!!
So I've change the passenger side strut mount and it cured 70% of noise, not all.
I could still hear bit of clunking noises coming from somewhere low, passenger side suspension when run over a uneven pavement or when the car is cold.
