Fun Facts about the 991 (please contribute)

some facts I find interesting:

1: with paddle shifters optioned (PDK), you can pull both at same time and hold and car will go into neutral.

2: if you press and hold the "AUTO" button on the A/C it will change to "MONO" mode which allows both sides to become one, controlled by driver side... pressing passenger side then changes back to 2 zone.

3: If wipers are engaged (auto sensing or not) for more than 5 seconds the headlights turn on.

4: When "slamming" on brakes quickly/with much force the car auto applies maximum braking pressure and also engages the hazard lights for safety.

5: Rear Spoiler extends further on models with sunroof (when open) and cabriolet models (unsure if only when top down)

Good facts, I had read most of those in the OM, but #5 is something I hadn't heard yet in relation to the cab.

6) With Porsche Entry and Drive you can unlock the frunk (and doors) by holding your hand below the Porsche crest. Found this by accident when wiping down the car with the key in my pocket

7) The left hand scroll button on the multifunction steering wheel will mute the raidio when depressed.

8) With the rear fog light on & at speeds below 43mph the headlight beams become wider to reduce glare (pretty smart)!

9. If you look hard through the rear or side mirrors you can see if the spoiler is up or down. (I couldn’t tell on the 997 so had to assume it was working. Always wondered why the spoiler button light didn’t go on after 75 and off below 30…)

Number 5 answers why it doesn't have a front fog light switch...thanks!

Great tips!
10. If you only drive your PDK manually, your wife won't know it's an automatic and will never ask to drive it ;) It's worked so far for me.

Hah, what if your better half is just as good as you are at shifting and driving?

Trust me when I say my ex could keep up with all of us.

Wouldn't stop my wife. She loves driving my 6sp, and she is very good at it.

Cool feature on widening the headlights in fog. That would come in handy in Houston.

If the cabin air sensor detects diesel type fumes it will switch to recirculate

With dynamic lights a highway light is activated over 68mph for more than 33 seconds or above 81 mph without delay. There is an increase in light distribution

The xenon light increases from 35w to 37w at 56 mph

The oil level is measured ultrasonically with the engine running or off.

Good stuff, guys. Thanks for posting.

Not a lot of people realize this but if you quickly get off of the Gas it pre loads the brake pedal.

With the 7mt, if you stall, it restarts automatically when you push the clutch in. Not that I stalled it at my first toll during my euro delivery. :)

The average human head, whether in the 991 or not, weighs 10 pounds.....

If you have the right options and get it just right (the key in your pocket and the hose spraying about a foot from the hood ornament) the proximity sensor will pop the hood when washing the car. D'oh!
