Ok. I'll bite. It is an automatic. It has D and shifts itself with no driver intervention. I realize it also has paddles for manual mode but so does a GL 450.
The marketing guys can call it what they want, but it's just a very sophisticated version of what's been around for decades.

Two points. First, I didn't bring the topic up so I'm not trying to start trouble. I just thought the point that the PDK or any other double clutch automatic isn't really an automatic is silly. Second I have two vehicles with double clutch automatics and they are great automatic transmissions. I fully understand the technical differences.
Call it whatever makes you happy, but they are what they are.

I do not see calling a PDK, DSC, F1 or torque convertor transmission an automatic an insult. If it can be shifted from one gear to another without manual input from the driver, it is an automatic. If it requires manual input from the driver, it is a manual.

I had a '72 Pinto wagon with a 4 speed manual and more recently an '06 BMW 5 series wagon with a 6 speed manual. I'm looking forward to my manual 991, but I totally understand why someone would want a PDK. I gave it some pretty serious thought after my test drive. It's pretty amazing that there seems to be no correlation between transmission preference and any specific demographic. Different strokes.........

My view pretty much depends on the intent of the car. If I planned to track the car more than a bit, I'd get a GT3 (when available) and certainly get PDK as it would be both safer and faster. For a car I'd plan to drive exclusively on the street or rarely on the track, I'd go with the manual.

I would go manual to have fun in the track and PDK to drive it exclusively on today's congested streets.

OTOH, I Cant see the fun driving a manual in todays congested roads, but thats just me.
