Default 991 assembly time - how long does it take?

How long does it take Porsche to build a 991?

Granted all the components are pre-assembles as sub-assemblies and then married up, but from the time the first chassis sheet metal is first placed in the jig and the welding process begins, to the paint shop and then on to final assembly of sub-assemblies, how long does it take to build a 911?

My 991S is scheduled for May 9 completion, so I am starting to feel anxious!

I believe it takes about a week. I'm inferring this from the fact that 2013 production starts the first week in June, so adding the Porsche mandated two-week buffer between scheduled completion of a car and Zuffenhausen delivery, gets you to about June 21. This corresponds well to my pick-up date is 20 June.

But this is only "inferring".

From the moment sheet metal is first placed in chassis jig to roll out all nice and shinny and smelling like car heaven, HOW LONG TO BUILD A 911?

Forgot to say thats when the wait begins. Mine took two weeks to get on boat and then 15 days to my port. Hoping for dealer delivery after that in 10 days....a long wait! Still waiting. Hoping for May 28 delivery.

5 days in production. That would be to assemble the chassis, paint and sub components on the assembly line.

Does anyone know how many man hours it takes to build every single part and assembly?

So for example, say the casting of an engine block takes 20 min. and the pistons take 20 minutes and the machining of the engine case take 30 min etc etc.
Then Hanz takes say 4 hours to assemble all the engine parts, etc, etc.

How man hours does it take to build every single component?

Probably a bean counters most coveted secret!

I toured the Stuttgart factory back in early 2009 and recall the tour guide saying it took about 3 days from chassis parts entering the line to final vehicle rolling off the line. The production rate was approx 150-160 per day. I'm not sure if they produce cars 7 days per week, but the local zoning only allowed for 2 shifts per day, so the plant does not run 24 hours per day.

The tour is awesome, highly recommended!

I was wondering too. Glad I found this thread. My 991.2 is supposed to be finished on April 1, 2016 to they should be building it this week!

I think mine entered the paint shop at the end of July and came out in early September. Evidently production shut down in August and the cars that are in there must just sit. Hopefully my paint is extra well 'cured'

My 2nd 991.2 is also being built this week. By 2nd, I mean that they damaged the first one a few weeks back, and had to go to the back of the line and start again. We'll be line-mates this week!

It happens, every couple hundred cars, the robots bend the metal into something that looks more like a T-800 Series than a car. So weird.
