Default Anyone trade their turbo for 991?

I was wondering if there is anyone on this forum who traded their turbo in for a 991cs and if they are happy with their decision. My plan is to trade in a 5 year old 3 series (DD) and the turbo for a new 991 CS (will be DD for 6-8months). I am putting a 2012 BMW M5 on order this Summer as well if I do this.

i just traded my TTs cab for a manual c2s - i guess i am not a turbo person as i only lasted 6 months in my cayenne turbo and reall only had about 5 months driving with this turbo. the stock exhaust on the turbo cab is a joke; the power is amazing in 1st & 2nd but wow, beyond 2nd it is hard to get those RPM's up and keep your car.

the turbo was pretty amazing but it didn't really get my blood flowing. i haven't even driven a 991, but i know that, like my GTS, it will be a ton of fun. never regret owning the turbo - just didn't want to hold onto it any longer.

Thanks for the input. My current turbo is a tip and it has endless power. But the PDK is just amazing and really makes the tiptronic feel like a dinosaur. Besides, I am constantly running out of road, too quick too fast to enjoy on public roads. I think I'll get more out of the 991.

I sold my turbo 4 years ago when I left the US for Singapore and coming back I had to choose between another turbo or a 991. I loved the surge of the turbo, but it was rarely useful on the street without endangering my license. I am sure I will miss that on track days. But that isn't the majority of my driving. The CS is very useful on the street and feels responsive and fun at any speed.

I bought my 991S and then sold my 997.1 turbo. I kept the turbo for awhile to make sure I wouldn't miss it and also thought about keeping both. I think the the 991s is better in most ways with the exception of the low end power the turbo has. After owning the 991 a few weeks I knew I would not drive the turbo much so I sold it. I will order a 991 Turbo when they become available.

Never driven the turbo, but I've driven the 991S. Can anyone tell me if there's a real difference between this and the 997 turbo in terms of exhaust, acceleration, etc? I was going to order the 991, but wanted to wait for the new 991 turbo to come out before making a final decision. Any thoughts?

Go drive a turbo. More low in thrust. 991S is more comfortable and very fast. You are 2 years away from a turbo 991. I am planning on getting one. I like the 991S better than the 997 turbo but you may not.

coming from a 06 997S , I just purchased a 997.1 TT and drove the 991S with my wife.
I had to make a decision between a GTS , 991S or 997.1TT.
The 991S is a fantastic car..i like the way it delivers its power and the PDK is very good.

I purchased the Turbo because i felt like i was driving a sport car and not a GT car.

The 991 feels/looks like an Aston Martin with a porsche drivetrain. Very awesome but at my age i felt like the TT was more of a sports car feel and look.

The 991 engine and transmission are superb same for handling.. bravo.

The plastic buttons in the 991 felt cheap and would not last more than 3 years... the window control feels like its worth 3$. inside illumination is amazing and the exterior lights are to die for... I was in awe when i locked the doors and looked at the car in the dark..

If i had only one car to drive it would be a 991S ( more comfortable - linear power and GT looks).
I think a twin Turbo in this car will be earth moving...

The GTS was very fun to drive and i can see why some people purchased them.
Too many choices at porsche these days.. The TT still stands out from the pack.

I'd love to test drive a 997 turbo for comparo purposes, but I always feel bad for testing something I have no intention of buying. The dealer says that the turbo exhaust is quieter than the normally-aspirated 991S, not sure if that's true.

I'm definitely willing to wait 2 years for the 991 turbo if it means a faster, louder and sportier car. Not sure if the extra $40k from the 991S is worth it? Hoping experienced 997 turbo drivers here can shed some light on the meaningful differences between the TT and normally-aspirated.

The Turbo has a grittier, less polished feel to it and loads of low end torque. It is a great car. I owned one for 5 years. I think the interior in the 991 is much improved. But that's just me. Buy a turbo and enjoy that for awhile. They will not depreciate as much as the 991. The buy a couple year old 991. I bought the 991 to have something different till the 991 turbo is available. Personally I would rather have a 991 but I like the polish. It does not feel like an Aston Martin.

+1

The 991s probably wont get as many thumbs up as a turbo. The TT feels more raw and less refined by a moderate margin. But man it has crazy power. In fact so much power, that on the road, it feels like you only get to use 20% of the car.

My advice to others has been, if you want a weekend warrior, get a turbo. If you want something you'll use as a DD or more frequently than the weekends, get a 991s.

When my M5 comes in this Fall, that will become my DD. With good luck and fortune, I will then trade the 991s for a 991 TT, within the next couple of years.

The 991 is a daily driver it shares DD duty with an 09 SL65. I get my torque fix there.

My last five vehicles have been turbo charged, so I'm addicted to boost.

For a daily driver, the 991 is the way to go. If you want something that is more of an occasional toy, then a TT is hard to beat.

I paired the 991 S against a couple of 996TT's and wow, the 991 S was as fast if not even faster at times than the 996TT even at Puebla's altitude of 2500 meters above sea level where aspirated cars loose anywhere betwen 23 to 27% of their power and Turbos perhaps only 5% average, that speaks a whole lot about the 991 speed, because is not only power but efficency, I was shifting in my own 996TT and I could hear the 991 S PDK going through the gears super quick and going ahed of me for a while... simply amazing, add the leves of comfort tremendous looks and all and of course the 91 S is a good option

I wasn't implying track speed. The HP and straight line numbers between between a 996 TT and 991S are pretty close. I have no doubt that a 991S PDK can turn better lap times than a stock 996TT.

Turbos will spoil you with their flat torque curves however. The tuning options on a turbo are also much better.

I'm just partial to boosted motors.
