Everyone who has ordered a 991 Please Read. (Collection of Info)
in the Cayenne section I did a similar post: https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...very-date.html
it helped many people get an idea of when their car should arrive and so forth based on where they were located and the average times from start to finish... I would love to do the same with 991's (and i will take the info given and update it on the first couple posts as people post their own updates.. Does anyone know when the car actually shows up on the dealer's inventory which is viewable online for all incoming and on the property cars?
|
Hey jdsc, are in canada or the states?
My 991 S (manual) was also moved to the 23/3/12 (but this was the completion date). I'm now waiting for the car to arrive at Emden. Hopefully by tomorrow so it can make it on the Seven Seas Highway....

NAV991...
Looks like we may have twins! But, they will be on different ships. I'm in Northern California. So, my baby is going through San Diego. If I am lucky, it went out on the Grand Venus on the 27th arriving one month later on April 26th. But, that is cutting it close. My dealer told me to get the cigars out as the car was built on Friday the 23rd and gave me the vin #. Does that mean it was completed on that date, or is that the build date, with completion sometime after? Also, asked this question above, does anyone know when the cars show up on the dealer's inventory page? I've seen and talked to dealers about specific cars shown in their inventory, and have been told that the car is still on the boat, in the port awaiting release, or on the truck. Thanks Rijowysock for posting the shipping schedule. Much appreciated. Any chance you have April's schedule also? |

Jdsc,
the 23rd was probably your build completion date. So you might make the boat this week. I have the schedule into April, but it looks like this line doesn't have a boat to San Diego till a month later.. ??? Congrats on the birth of your car though, I'll light up a cigar for you... |
Hopefully it made the boat but if not, I am reasonably confident Porsche uses other ships for their transport. I'll see if the dealer has any updates later this week.
And, congrats to you too! Cigar is lit. |
Got a message from the dealer that my car was on board the ship on the 28th. I have to assume that it is on the Grand Venus due into San Diego on April 26th. On the VW Logistics schedule sheet it shows it as being a non-stopper however ship tracker shows it going into Southampton on Friday the 30th. Probably to drop off some right hand drive vehicles before heading to the colonies......the wait continues. Anyone else on the same ship?

Shiptracker has my ship, and car, leaving Southampton today and the next destination is Cristobal, on the
Atlantic side of the Panama Canal, arriving on April 13th..... Is it my imagination, or is time standing still? |
jdsc,
Time feels like it's crawling. I was hoping to be on the Seven Seas Highway that departed on Friday, except my dealer still shows "awaiting vessel". Don't know if computers need to be updated or she missed the boat. :banghead: |
I would bet your car is on the Seven Seas Highway. What is your vin#? Mine is 121951 and I'm 90% sure it is on the Grand Venus. If your's is close to mine with the same completion date of the 23rd, and my car made it to Emden in time to leave on the 28th, I'm sure your's did too in time to make a 30th departure.
Look on the bright side. By the time I get my car you will have had yours for a couple of weeks already!!! In fact you might get your's before mine even arrives at the the Panama Canal. The price we pay to live on the West Coast. In any case, a month from now we should both be wearing huge grins and enjoying the hell out of our new cars. |
Time is standing still...

jdsc,
My VIN is 121976 (25 cars away from yours) ... so my build may have completed after the 23rd. Will wait for the dealer update. I do feel your pain about being on the West coast. But you do get the nicer weather...

FWIW on the shipping lines discussion, my 911 Cab and my friend's coupe both came into San Diego on NYK Lines freighters, his on the Aphrodite Leader and mine on the Harmony Leader.
Your dealer should be able to tell you the name of the ship that your car is on. For me the wait just became excruciating. Harmony Leader cleared the Panama Canal yesterday, so it's just a few more days up the coast to San Diego... |
Appears there are mysterious delays on 991s to the UK right now.
Hearing reports of 100 or so sitting on the port in Germany (including mine) for the past 2 or so weeks. No explanation given, with speculation of quality control checks. Painful waiting game, though should be worth the wait. |

My car arrived on the Seven Seas Highway to the Port of Houston on Sunday. My dealer is twenty something miles away. I am out of town for a friend's son's wedding leaving tomorrow first thing in the morning with my wife. Hopefully Monday.
Feel like I did in 8th grade when I ordered a Puegeot UO8 ten speed and it took five months. Called that bike dealer everyday for a month. The beat goes on. |

May I just say...many years ago I took European Delivery in Stuttgart. Drove it around for only a week as the factory folks warned me of the dangerous spots in Europe. I returned it to the factory for shipment. It was damaged on the boat by rough seas. Quite frankly, I did not want a "new" "repaired Porsche". I called PCNA and we agreed that I would not take delivery but would get my money back if the "restoration" of my "new" Porsche was inappropriate for me. In those days, the arrival port was Charleston, SC. When I was notified repairs were completed, I flew to Charleston to inspect and pick up or refuse acceptance of the car. I was exceedingly impressed with the repairs which were far superior to that any local body shop could have accomplished. I drove the car home with a huge smile on my face the entire journey. My face hurt for days thereafter.
I kept the car for 18 years and reluctantly traded it last December for a new 991. I am physically unable to drive a manual and thus needed PDK. My salesman bought my trade-in from the dealership. Pardon this roaming recollection but there is a moral to this story. If you wish to cut delivery time, pick up your car at the port-of-entry. You will have a rejuvenating experience by seeing the Porsches off the boat and then driving YOURS home. In addition, it saved me $780 trucking to the dealership. My testosterone levels must have been red-lined by that experience. My wife shared my excitement. She has driven all of our Porsches regularly. |

How long to get ship tracking?
I know the car has arrived at port Emden in Germany, but haven't had an update from my dealer for a while.

I'd like to know this too as I just heard from my dealer that my 991 is also sitting at port in Emden (maybe our cars are sitting beside each other.) :D
How long does it take to cross the Atlantic? It took 11 days for my car. I'm still waiting for it to be delivered to the dealer, but at least I know it crossed the Atlantic. |

No. My build date is 5/30 and my freeze date according to the dealer was 5/1/14. I think that he was early though and that I probably had a couple more days to make last minute changes.

Thanks for the websites for shipping UT! There's nothing but blank space in the San Diego column right now. I reckon that will change. Do you know which ship your car is on? Gotta post a few photos when it shows up.

My MY15 C2S is on the Mermaid Ace, which should pop up on terrestrial tracking again on Monday, somewhere by St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada on it's way to R.I. and then Houston. Maybe I should run up to St. John's, curl a few ends, pick up a big pup and the car? Or maybe not... ;) I'm sure a few pics of the car will show up once it does! |

I will not be making any modifications to my order. After driving a 911 for the past 43 years I am fairly familiar with the options available. At $124,460.00 list I am satisfied I have the order the way I want it.
Having spent a couple of years since the introduction of the 991 in February 2012 musing an order, yet having owned a 1965 first year 911 and a 1974 first year 2.7 911 . . . I was hesitant to buy a "new generation" model 911 until a few years of warranty claims has shown the glitches from customer field testing. I spent the past two years with the Porsche website configurator reviewing the various options and visiting dealerships, plus lurkiing on this helpful forum. The only option I ended up erasing was the further 10mm lowering of the "Sport" PASM that further stiffens the springs and anti-roll bars . . . but did order the Sport Chrono and the PDCC to go along with the PASM that comes standard on the Carrera S. I have never autocrossed or tracked my cars and we have pretty crappy roads here in the Central Valley of California. I do not really want to give up a relatively smooth highway ride or have to cross parking lot speed bumps at an angle. Of course as an aging teenager I had to have the PSE button. Wow!
Pete - 43 years! That's amazing. We have been patiently (well not so patiently) waiting for our first Porsche - a C4S cab. We ordered in April and should be delivered in about 10 days! We are really looking forward to it. . and it will be a stablemate of a 2015 Mercedes S65 (which arrived 3 weeks ago!)
Along the way - look forward to getting your insights about the car and how to take advantage of all that it can do! Cheers Jack |

Wow. Nice!

Posting your window sticker helped. I have steering column casing in leather with the Espresso/Cognac interior on my (never ending) order. I assumed that comes with deviated stitching in the two tone interior, but will have the dealer double check.
Thanks! |
FYI - the "other options not listed" relate to much of the deviated stitching (including the leather key fob)

Beautiful! You are right...it doesn't look like a Buick's interior anymore! It's probably due to all of that wonderful deviating stitching and the several 'Blue' bulls that gave their all for this interior! Saludos, Eduardo Carmel . |

I am tracking it across the Atlantic . . . off the French coast today. Also got the VIN, engine number, gearbox number and key number . . . and it shows it has Pirelli tires. |
Scottish Pete,
My GT3 is on the "Polaris Leader" as well. Would you be kind enough to help me with tracking information too? I've not been able to get positions or dates for port arrival. Thanks, Todd |
The Polaris Leader passed by the Azores a day or so ago. It left Emden on 10/25 and stopped at Bremerhaven. It is bound for Puerto Rico scheduled to arrive on 11/07 at 9:00 UTC. It will pass through the Panama Canal and is scheduled to arrive in San Diego on 11/21.
There are several tracking websites such as: http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/...POLARIS_LEADER |
Armbar,
You have probably discovered that there is about a 5 or 6 day dead area crossing the Atlantic with no updates on the Polaris Leader. I watch another website that updates the arrival time daily. The Polaris Leader is now scheduled to get to Puerto Rico on 11/06 instead of 11/07. The alternate website I have been tracking requires registration (free): http://www.fleetmon.com/en/vessels/Polaris_Leader_37531 There is also a website to the Panama Canal to track vessels: http://www.vesselfinder.com/?p=12 Have fun! |
Polaris Leader docked in San Diego on Thursday, 11/20/14 at 6:00 am PST.

This silver one also matches my hair now. I sure love my full leather and the PDCC really is like a go-kart. What I find funny when ordering bespoke cars from Porsche is the lack of people ordering fire Extinguishers. What are they about $140 now? And it can save you, your passenger's or a bystander's life. So no matter the situation the value of one's life is invaluable. It's the best Option anyone can ever purchase.
Sorry for sounding like a Public Service Announcement. Dream on for that day you get your Porsche is like Christmas morning/day |

I decided to order it after seeing a news clip a few months back of a car accident. The woman was stuck in the car, and some guy came running with an extinguisher. That bought the rescuers, just some other drivers that stopped, enough time to pry the car door open and get her out. Seconds late the car was engulfed in flames. So it wasn't so much about my car in flames, but it might save somebody's else's life. Having said that, there is some peace of mind that it is within reach. |

Dealer doesn't have any explanation. I'm getting a little impatient as I ordered in early July. Hope it's worth the wait! |
These order to delivery times should be embarrassing to Porsche. You can literally conceive and deliver a baby quicker than some of these orders....and a lot/most of them are STOCK items, not PTS or LTS.
Hope this isn’t indicative of the ownership experience I’ve been dreaming of for decades. So frustrating. |

The first part of the delay isn't really Porsche - it's the time they give you to make up your mind. Time from getting my allocation on 9/12 to lock on 10/20 was a bit over a month. In theory I could have messed with the order all month long. Some people do, oscillating all the way up to the last moment. Time from lock (V250) to start of construction was 2 weeks. Meaning they have 2 weeks to make sure they have the inventory of parts. That's not unreasonable either. Time from start of construction to end is 7 days. That's not horrible. In theory my car is built now - I haven't actually pestered my dealer to find out if it's on schedule. From vehicle completion to leaving Emden is 2 weeks. That is a long time, but it's dependent on ship schedules, and includes padding. With my wife's Cayman, the actual time from completion to getting on a ship was 9 days, not 21. Transit time across the Atlantic is estimated at 14 days Emden to Davisville. It's sometimes that long, sometimes faster. Time from Davisville to dealer is highly variable, mainly because it depends on a truck getting a reasonably full load going the same way. My wife's Cayman was in our hands a full 3 weeks ahead of the estimate, 9 weeks after vehicle lock. 9 weeks is a lot less the time it takes to conceive and deliver a baby. Even if you've got 4 mothers working together on the job. :) |
Gus—
I’m glad it worked out for you, that has not been my experience. My “Fixed” date has slipped twice, 7 days each time, with no input or changes from me, and no explanation whatsoever. As it stands now, my PLANNED fixed date versus EXPECTED has an *additional* 2 week change/delay showing. There is then a three week span between Fixed and Body Shop entry. I haven’t even looked at transit times, because what’s the point? Add It all up, and the order I placed the third week of September will be here—theoretically—the second week of March. Although not quite a 9 month gestation, 6 months to get a “standard” car seems a little absurd to me in this day and age. Is what it is, as they say. |
Hey guys, quick question. I have a car on a carrier currently (Galveston Hwy) that says it's enroute to Halifax, Canada. I believed my car would be getting delivered to San Diego, does the boat stop in Halifax and then go onto San Diego?

Probably stops at Davisville RI where cars for the NE get off loaded and then on from there to Jacksonville FL for more off loads.

Best Regards, Dave There may be other stops not listed. My car ( delivered this past month) stopped at Long Beach, Port Hueneme, and then San Diego on back to back days and only the San Deigo stop was listed on the pwl line schedule. Leaves a little mystery in the process. |

Interesting how no deliveries have been completed since March of this year ... is there a reason that everyone has stopped contributing their build and delivery results here?
|
Lots of deliveries, but all being reported in this thread
|
Yes, but this thread was meant to be a place to simply view the overall start to finish milestones results for each ... a way for others to get an quick idea of the trends without wading through all of the exciting story-lines and chatter of the other thread :) ... I'll be adding my final stats here within a week (hopefully).
|
I'll do the same - hoping for delivery right after Xmas, but we'll see if she makes the boat :)
