Done HERE with 958 Chassis Cayenne, I figured I would break down the 991 as well..

Base: $82,100
-ADD 20" Wheels: $1560
-ADD PASM: $2090
-ADD PTV Plus: $1490
-ADD Quad Exhaust Tips: $440
-ADD "S" Emblem: $14

Base with options found standard on "S" =$87,694 ($8,706 for 3.8L engine +50HP, and Red 6 Pot front brakes versus 4 Pot)

"S": $96,400

when broken down, and considering the brakes probably would cost a couple thousand to retrofit, ~6500 or so for 50hp doesn't seem too bad, and the difference in price is much closer to the difference between the 997 and 997"S"..

-all other options can be added for the same price between both models.

I still couldn't justify the difference. I am happy with the performance of my 997.2 base car so I don't think I will miss the extra 50 BHP, but I know I would miss the extra $10,000 that an S equipped like the base I ordered would be.

Its doubtful that I will drive this 991 more than 2000 miles per year. I'm going for the base and spending the 10 thousand dollars in other ways.

my personal feelings as well, on the 997.2 I opted for the base over S (similarly optioned cars, was a 7k difference at time of purchase), and once buying it I honestly never looked back, a good friend of mine purchased a 997.2 "S" after seeing/liking my car and when he drove mine he only got upset as he thought the difference would be larger. (made me feel REALLY good)

the new brakes on the "S" are really sexy but even considering that I could not justify the "S" model for the 50hp and other differences.... many of the standard options I did not want anyways (PASM/20" wheels/PTV) but i do love the quad exhaust tips and will add them as I did on my 997.2

not discrediting the "S" model but just offering my opinion and why I ordered a base, if anything the "S" model is probably the best deal for an "S" in a while with all the extra standard options.

and to those who feel the 991 base pricing is "expensive", it's only 2k more than the 997.2 and you get the $4000 NAV+iPod as standard now!.

To each their own. Personally I think I would wait for the next gen Cayman S or Boxster S optioned out vs a base Carrera. I couldn't care less about cars as status symbols. But everyone has different reasoning and motivations so at the end of the day I am glad they makes something for everyone.

$130 per extra HP is pretty cheap.

What's sad is that an $82,000 sports car made in 2012 doesn't already come with 400hp standard...

It's one of the main reasons I haven't already ordered a 991. Ironically - I couldn't tell the difference in power between the 997.2 and 997.2 "S" after a three month break but it still gripes me...

I just can't get all of the stuff I need to carry in a Cayman or Boxster. The 911 has a LOT of space for my everyday needs as well as a few pretty long road trips each year.

It would seem that Euro delivery is free now too. Value = >$2k.

For only 2000 miles per year, you might think about saving the entire $85K and not bother with one at all?

Really? I can get a lot more in the Boxster (frunk & trunk) than I can in the 911 (frunk).

You neglect to mention the rear seat area in the 911. It will hold quite a bit more stuff (including people) than the trunk in the Boxster.

don't forget the invaluable, and much more appreciated to anyone on the street, additional torque and its superior curve. The "S" is a bargain.
