Default Sport Chrono

I know the subject has been debated in the 997 forum with the option priced under $1000, but on the 991 I clicked and got the following message:
"Option 640 - Sport Chrono Package in combination with option 250 - Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) has a different price. The price will be changed from $1,850 to $2,370!"
At least they end the statement with a !
I know the gimmicky electronic engine mounts are included, but seriously, $2,370? Anyone think this is worth it?

On my '09 with PDK, Sport Chrono Plus wasn't under $1K; it was $1320. So the upside is that you're getting the DEM's for an additional $1000. Can't remember what they were as a stand alone item before but I'm certain it was quite a bit more. Downside is that you're forced to spend that extra grand even if you don't want DEM. OTOH, if you're getting PDK, Sport Chrono is really a must. You get the Sport and Sport Plus modes which are essential, and Launch Control which isn't, but is cool to have.

+1. Regardless of cost, Sport Chrono is a must and I would not get a car without it.

Maybe I'll revise my opinion - seems we're getting a $1700 DISCOUNT off the current price of this option "pkg" on the current turbo!

DEMs are not gimmicky. They work and are worth the price of admission. SC Plus is needed w/PDK; not to mention the aforementioned DEMs and incidentals.

Yeah, it is expensive but the alternative ~ not having the options~ is not worth it on a car of this caliber. Unless of course the owner drives like Miss Daisy.

OK everyone in this thread is saying that Sport Chrono is a must if getting PDK.

Why is it considered thus?

I do want to know as I plan on getting a 991 with PDK hopefully sometime in the next year.

Thanks :-)

Sportier shift modes, revised throttle mapping yielding sharper response, deactivation of the auto-shut off, more latitude before PSM intervenes and launch control. I hate the dash wart but the wart is worth it for what SC Plus offers on a C2S.

+1. I would also skip a car without DEM. I passed on my first GT3 build in lieu of a later build with DEM. DEM equipped cars do demand a higher price. DEM also works very well. The option was $1,300 on the GT3.

The normal PDK shift program is weighted toward economy and early upshifts. It is adaptive to your driving style and you can always shift manually, but still in normal driving it shifts early and often. The sport and sport plus modes available with Sport Chrono are great for sporty road driving and track driving respectively. That's why you want SC with PDK.
