Engine placement
 

I just saw this top cut out shot of 991, anyone's got the 997 to compare it to?

I see that engine is definitely moved forward a bit, likes to compare how much vs. 997.

EDIT: I could only find a Turbo/GT2 pic, if you compare, the transmission looks lower on 991 and definitely the engine is moved forward.

EDIT 2: Finally found a regular carrera pic (althought looks like C4, but site said Carrera).

Relative to the rear wheels--I see no real change.

If you draw a line from the begining of transmission assembly to the wheels, the 997 line is right on front lip of the wheel... however, in 991, the line ends up 1/4 of the wheel diameter to the lip... so at least 1-2" forward. For sure there's less rear bias from all reported reviews so far.

What fun is that then?!?

I need to find it again, but I remember reading that Porsche had figured out how to make the transmission shorter by 3 inches, and that was responsible for the engine moving forward by the same amount...

If I am wrong, or misquoting, I am sure someone will correct me soon enough.

Sorry to tell you that's actually a 997 turbo.
Engine in the 991 is in the same place - jammed into the rear bumper!

I think I did mention that, and btw it's NOT 997 Turbo, it's GT2! ;)

If one can find a 997 picture, please post so we can compare. I wasn't able to find one.

It is DEFINITELY NOT in the same place, there is a lot more past the axle, more of the transmission... 100% less rear bias based on Porsche's own statements, how much? I don't know.

I am more worried about electrical steering! That could make or break 991 for me... I will hold on to my .1 now for at least another 2 years, then either will get into a GTS or a 991 if the steering feel is not lost.

Maybe in 991 GT3 they fix that and going to hydrolic steering? Who knows...

or you can open up that car and put in all cup car steering parts. kinda extreme but doable. it all depends of how good new motor and gearbox will be.

That is a turbo. Look at the wheel, seats, etc.

I guess, but probably not with a brand new car, maybe a 2yr old 991 at huge discounts would warrant such an upgrade.

Replace the 991 electric power steering pump with a 997 Cup electric power steering pump (997 Cups already run electric power steering)? Not sure why you'd go that route but here you go:
