Even with your higher tax rates, your medical coverage is not expensive. Take a look at the cost of medical insurance in the US these days. Many Canadians aren't aware of how high Americans are taxed these days, especially in states like California. And that is without medical insurance. The marginal difference in income tax in Canada isn't as significant as it once was.
But I agree that Canadians are ripped off with new car pricing, by all the manufacturers. A few years ago, Chrysler admitted that they charge more in Canada because they can.

I'll chime in. Just bought a new 6 spd GTS with Nav, Bose, sport chrono, sport suspension w/LSD and a bunch of other stuff for $103K OTD. Pretty good deal IMHO, I didn't want to wait and I am enjoying the car now. I love the 997.2 design I kind of like the idea that the GTS is the best of the 997 breed and think, right or wrong, that depreciation will be equivalent regardless of model year. My well equipped GTS has a lot more content than a base 991 will have and I suspect that with similar equipment you'll be looking at around $113-$115K for a 991 with 8 hp difference in hp. Performance will be drivers difference.

That said I am impressed with the 991 and will most likely have one in a couple of years. Either a 991.2 or a 991 GT3. We'll see. In the mean time I'll be enjoying the hell out of my beautiful new GTS and will be ready for my well sorted out 991.2 when they become available.

If you are leaning towards a 991, and it sounds like you are, then by all means get it, because it sounds like you have doubts regarding your decision. I didn't. You can't go wrong either way. Don't compromise if you have second thoughts.

Damn straight. Best advice you'll get and beats hell out of an accounting analysis of hypothetical future value.

Definitely wheels would be upgraded on "S" as well as some other items. In 997, "S" cars came standard with Sports Chrono, Xenon, and larger wheels which is like a $4.5K upgrade, so the difference is around $10K between two cars with "S" options added.
Sport Chrono was NOT standard on the "S" in any year of the 997.1 or 997.2.

"here we go again" comment is right on too !

I bet the 964 and 993 guys are just loving all the discussion's on which is better...

I still don't see a big enough leap in performance or looks for that matter, from my "old" 997.1 C4S to the new 991 to justify the $50k extra.

just my 2 cents (before the launch and seeing one up close or driving one)

I thought the 997.1 was a step sideways. 997.2 was much better but not enough for me to move from a 996.2. I think the 991 is a big step up from the 997.2. Looks way more modern and will out out run and handle a 997.1 GT3 and probably the .2 GT3 as well.
I know we all have to make excuses as to not spend money to get the newest and latest but I think if I had a 997.2 or older and the opportunity I couldn't resist this upgrade unless I had a GTS. Then I'd probably use that excuse.

997.1 S went to 355 HP, improved the looks over the 996. The car was wider, and more comfortable for many drivers. The DFI in the 997.2 is great, but on paper , not a huge leap in performance. PDK is better than the TIP in the 997.1.
So, either way I look at it, unless you gotta have the newest thing, I would hold on for a bit longer and be very happy with 997.1 or .2 performance and looks.

With my 40th anniversary and 345HP, i could not feel hardly any performance difference in going to a 997.1S. There is however, a material difference (one I can really feel) but not massive in moving to the 997.2S. I suspect the difference between the 991 and the 997.2S will be like going from an X51 996 (345HP) to the 997.1S (355HP), a smidge but barely discernible. In parallel, maybe the newer car will be more refined and just be an overall better car. But dont expect a material performance difference IMO.

Improved looks, have to disagree. I think the 996 Turbo front air intake and bumper design carried over to the current boxster and now the new 991 is a much better look. Also the wide body 996 is gorgeous sleek instead of being humpy like the 997.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Your in a minority on that opinion. I've had the 996TT X50 , the look is nice and aggressive on the TT and C4S 996....but I doubt there is too many people that will agree the 996 was a better styled 911 than the 997, interior and exterior.

Yes it was in late 997.1 "S" models, maybe only in Canada, not sure.

EDIT: CORRECTION. You are right, Sports Chrono was NOT, BUT, the PASM WAS! So, my argument still is true just swap PASM for Sports Chrono.

I think the BEST 911 to get in the next couple of years is the 997.2 GT3 RS! Maybe add some GT3 RS 4.0 parts and make it as close to cup car as possible.

Due to ALL the new emission, sound, MPG regulations the next GT3 will be watered down, most likely faster, but less raw, probably quieter, etc... I was in Nurburging last month and those were RIPPING by at incredible pace and raw power/noise.
