When do we start the 991 Forum? - the 997 is so passe with 1/4 window mounted mirrors
|
Oh brother....may the naysaying begin!:roflmao:
|
Wow! First shot of the rear wing, looks HUGE! Must be great for high speed tracks!
Also, it looks like that Front and rear wheels have different sizes. The first 3 pics, looks like 20inch in the rear, 19inch front! |
Looks pretty great on the outside. Front looks funky, but I think when they get the camo off the headlights (hoping they don't 996 it), it will look really nice. Very muscular and 911'ish. Damn, now I might want one. :grr:
Upside seems like the 997s won't look too dated.

Overall, I don't have any problems with it...the rear end seems to be the biggest difference, and it looks good to me so far...but I thought the longer wheelbase was going to reduce the front and rear overhangs...they actually look larger, especially the rear! |
Come on now, that must be the Panamera Coupe, it looks ok and resembles a 911 but it is no 911.

Front and rear overhangs needed to accommodate 2 spare tires accessed from below (ala suv), one for the 19 inch wheel, the other for the 20 inchhttps://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

i just puked in my mouth a little.
993-996 was 10 steps backward imo 996-997 was a leap forward in design looks like my next p car purchase will be another 997 still |
It looks okay, not horrible, but not great. IMHO, the 997 is a more balanced and cleaner design. The 991 rear does seem over done and looks tail heavy. Overall, not that different from the 997. The mirrors and rear lip edge will be what the average non-P car Joe might see.
For me the the jury is still out, need to see the full production version in all its glory. |
Well, I'm going to buck the trend and state that -- once we see the final version -- I think this is going to be a good-looking car. Let's face it, Porsche -- like all other manufacturers -- is completely hamstrung by the combination of environmental, safety, and pedestrian impact standards. The handwriting was on the wall for the 997 because of this. Though the design of the current car is great (hell, I just ordered a 997!), they were forced into coming up with something new for the next decade.
I'm guessing this will be like every other 911 redesign: initial scorn, followed by grudging acceptance, culminating in loving praise -- at which point it's time for the new version! ;-) |
I didn't see any pictures that showed the rear wing deployed. It didn't look that big to me, no bigger than the one on the 997 at least.
Am I missing something? Were there a different set of shots somewhere on that website? |

Am I missing something? Were there a different set of shots somewhere on that website? I'm a little confused about the extra horizontal cutline that goes across the roof from B-pillar to B-pillar. Either they're going to a very large sunroof, ala Mercedes (perhaps photochromic?), or could that also be a hinged aero device? Probably the former and not the latter, as there's little room for a mechanism there... |
