The Rennfax option seems like a great option. How would I take advantage of that?
Basically you can just start a post with the header "Anyone in the XXX area" or something along those lines, requesting someone go have a look and maybe a test drive on your behalf. I did this for a fellow Rennlister a while back that was considering a 991.1 GTS that was for sale at a nearby Mclaren dealership. I just went and had a look, made sure there weren't any glaring problems, that the car was as-advertised, and took it for a quick spin. If anything hits your radar in the Denver area, let me know! You don't have to ask me twice to go test drive a 911.

Ahh, bummer. There doesn't seem to be a lot of 991.2 inventory at the moment, so they tend to go fast.
Sounds like you're in the Phoenix area. If that's the case, I would focus your search in AZ, NV, and SoCal. Never hurts to cast a wider net like you have, but desert cars are the best. Fewer rock chips, no salt or mag chloride exposure, low humidity, etc. My 997.1 was a one-owner car from Vegas, and my current 991.2 started life in Scottsdale and moved to Palm Springs before I took ownership of it.
CPO cars might bump up your price range a bit, but I'd swing by Porsche North Scottsdale and Chandler to let them know what you're in the market for. If you get to know a sales rep or two, they might be able to tip you off to a car coming in on trade before it hit's their website.
I know it sucks being on the outside looking in, but enjoy the hunt, and the right car will find you.

posting in the appropriate regional subforum with a succinct, descriptive thread title that people will click on, such as "rennfax needed in (city) for (car)"
