As mentioned, any year is perfect just in different ways. The later models did have some issues with water pumps, etc. It really comes down to personal preference. I have a .1 C2S with full headers/exhaust & tune and it's perfect. If I wanted 600+ hp I would have bought a the Turbo (not the "T" model either). Drive each and go from there. You won't be disappointed.

Earlier 991.1 didn’t have stock back up camera. Small creature comfort that I find valuable.

Love love love my ‘16 991.1S. I have a low option 7 speed. The driving experience is superb. But, I am a former Honda guy so I love high revving NA motors.

Own a .1 base and would reco a .2 because the .1:
  • is not quick (excluding Turbo/GT models)
  • is difficult to extract power and not as simple as a tune compared to the .2
  • doesn't have factory Apple CarPlay
  • didn't mandate a backup cam, but it was an option. At least up to 2016 for the US market
I prefer the .1 NA flat six exhaust note, which is its only redeeming quality.

I chose the .1 purely because of budget. A 7-speed MT .2 was double the cost of a similar spec'ed .1 at the time. Speed and power were not major factors for me (I came from slow 996 and 987 Caymans) and the rest of the creature comforts I could easily retrofit into the .1

thanks for all the inputs. when comparing 991.1 vs 991.2. Which one will hold its value more? I.e. which one is more likely to be the next classic car?

Base versions? Neither, they'll both be old Porsches. 991.2 Turbo/S, GTS, GT3... and so on would be the models you need to be looking at for real monetary gains in the long run, but still by no means would be "the best investment". $180K in a mutual fund for 10 years would out perform any of the vehicles listed to hopefully come back the other way and appreciate to where you purchased it at now... Overall just kind of a terrible mindset to have going into a vehicle purchase, let alone a modern one.

Default I agree

At some point when cars are mostly electric or hydrogen the older higher displacement NA cars will have value (3.8L and above). In the past 10 years my 3.8 has actually maintained its value. Base model N/A .1 cars will start to severly drop off after a certain mileage and so will base .2 cars. In 20 or 30 years I would guess all .2 base cars will be clapped out from tuning and TEMU mods. In the distant future a .2 car that has ultra low mileage bone stock may hold value.

Budget is the limit, look for the cleanest best serviced one that you can find that is a color you like and has the equipment you want... They are all good
