Default 991.1 Reliability

I am about to pull the trigger on a 20K mile 991.1 Cab S. I am looking to daily drive this car here in Florida. Any concerns doing this or known issues I need to check for? My last Porsche was back 2006-2008 when I lived in Kuwait and was a base fully loaded 996 2004. Even had the hands free and the cabled phone inside. Wonder if that was last year for that. Thanks for any help.

I think most will tell you that 991.1 is very reliable, just keep up with service schedule and avoid loading it up while engine is not up to temp.

Unless you can work on them and know what to look for, get it inspected. I think there is a 20k service. A tell tell sign that it was neglected is look at the outside filter in the frunk. If it is dirty, it is telling how this car was treated. If you can bend well, check the cabin air filter, also. If clean, it is another sign the car was cared for and loved. When I was looking for mine, I saw one that had over 20k mods/upgrades, but the all the air/cabin filters had not been changed for 20k. I passed on it! Hopefully this car has had 4 oil changes not, 2 or 1. Good luck!

On that same note, check the expiration date on the tire sealant in the frunk. Most people will never use this (or even know that it's there), but if the date is current, indicating that it has been replaced, that's usually a good sign of an OCD previous owner.

And yet another positive comment; at 75K miles without a squeak, rattle or leak. Maintenance is the key. I change the oil every 5K & like & like Joser, I keep it below 2K rpm until up to operating temp. Oil temp, not engine temp. It will get to the magic 194* before the oil temp begins to register some time. The analog gauge does not begin to register until 150*
Enjoy, nothing like a na going through 4K 😀

Have owned 2013 C2 manual since 5-1-20. Daily driver except in Buffalo winter. Track with PCA at Watkins Glen, 1200 mile trip through Vermont. Love it. Would buy it again

Default good so Far

Owned for 6 years. Only 3 failures were a small rubber mastercylinder line, door cards and the engine hood release button. OCD maintenance including oil changes all performed, never tracked. A cab is a safe bet as very few are tracked or driven at edge of capabilities.

2012 991.1

Bought new, maintemnace by the book and not driven hard.

PDK Transmission had to be replaced at 47K miles at cost of over $15,000 Trust me, this is not a repair you want to make, especially if you already stretched for the purchase.

Love the car, but not withoiut very expennsive issues.

I bought my 2016 GTS used 6+ years ago with less than 3,000 miles on it. It had one year remaining on the new car warranty. I bought a pricey Porsche-approved Safeguard extended warranty when I bought the car. In hindsight, I should have saved my money -- it expires in 2 or 3 months and I've never had to make a claim under it. It has not been trouble free, but no car is.

Early on, there was a coolant reservoir recall, an airbag module recall, and an engine heat shield recall, all covered by Porsche. It also had some annoying craziness with the satellite radio that took a while to sort out with the dealer. Other than routine scheduled service, I've only had to pay for a new battery and replace the windshield washer hose and the engine lid struts.

110k on my car and I am the 2nd owner since 20k miles and the car has been the most reliable car I have owned other than my 2007 4runner.

Most of the running costs are maintenance and wear and tear items. If you are a reasonable DIY'er and ok with hunting for parts on Ebay (especially active engine mounts) and own a PIWIS you can do almost all maintenance and repair on common failures at home. Pelican Parts has a great library of DIY videos of how to perform common repairs and good to research so you understand what you are getting into. This platform is SUPER easy to work on compared to my F80 M3, where the front subframe needs to be dropped to replace the oil pan gasket. On the 911, it's literally just exposed
