Default 991.1 Ducktail Installation

Is anyone familiar with installing an oem ducktail? I just purchased one and it looks like I’m going to have to remove the original mounting and purchase one specific for the ducktail. Any insight would be appreciated

yes you need a new mounting plate for the Duck.

This should be helpful

Where did you purchase your OEM duck. I’ve been thinking about doing this but my impression was it came with everything for the install, except the engine cover if that needs to be changed. Photos of the install process would be great!

Thanks for the info. I called sunset porsche parts where I purchased the ducktail and they said the mounting plate hardware is on back order. I assumed it came with everything to install but it doesn’t it’s only the tail,my fault but it would have been nice if they would have mentioned that to me before I ordered. I’m shipping back but gonna be out restocking fees and shipping around $600.

I just ordered a ducktail on ebay. Its not OEM and it bolts on to the original lift mechanism. When I get installed I’ll let anyone who’s interested in installing one, how it went. Hopefully it fits properly.

If you're going to be out $600 for shipping, maybe you want to keep the ducktail, get it painted... and wait for the backordered mounting plate?

I thought about that but who knows when it will be available. I think they want around another $1000 for the kit. I payed $2200 for just the tail, they want $3300 for the retrofit kit that includes tail and mounting. I really wanted OEM but I’m going to take a chance on this one I purchased for $1,300. I have a feeling the sport design package is on back order because of the new sales of the classic car with the ducktail design for around $230k

OK, I can say I've compared the Ebay ducktails to the genuine one, and I could tell the difference (and it wasn't good or bad... just different thickness here or there on the lip, etc)

Looks the same on the pic they post. Going to hold off on shipping oem one back and compare them. Noticed you have a 944 Turbo. I had an 87 Turbo for 14 yrs sold it in 2019 for 17,500 had 69k on it. Loved that car but it was time for a 911.

There is a seller from Germany on Ebay that sells an OEM kit and the listing does a very good job of explaining everything needed. The kit does appear to contain all necessary parts for the true conversion and it is fairly extensive. The price reflects that and US pricing from Sunset and Suncoast seem close and a lot less for shipping. I’ve decided I’d probably get it from Sunset (I’m in the Portland area so +++ there). I was still thinking it would be less than 4k for parts before paint though, and all OEM. Your situation is a good heads up to double check the parts list though.

for reference.

Yah you need a lot of little parts for the retro fit (bolts and mounting plates etc)

https://www.design911.com/uploads/pd...9104480078.pdf

also the full retrofit kit should around $2500

I purchased a "replica" Ducktail from a guy on FB for $600, he bought all the supporting hardware and clips and sensor deletes for the install but no mounting plate. I however do NOT need all the screws and clips that he bought. I have a TechArt type II spoiler and I modified the Ducktail to slide right over the upright mounts for the TechArt. Still need to finish it up, but I can swap tails for a different look within about 30 minutes.

If you want to proceed with the install of the OEM Ducktail...I'd be happy to sell / send you the hardware for $100 shipped. The guy said it was about $300+ from the dealer. You would still need to procure the base mounting plate. Let me know.

Or if anyone else is interested in the parts....?

Do you know if the base mounting plate is available for purchase?
