Sanity check on dealer service quotes for a few issues on my 2016 C2

Hey all, brought my 2016 C2 in for its 90,000 mile service and to check on a few issues I was having. Here’s what they came up with (prices are for parts and labor):

1. Choppy/jittery acceleration - diagnosed to be the pdk, suggesting pdk service, fluid flush/replacement, and recalibration ($3000)
2. Coolant system fault - diagnosed to be vacuum leak in airbox, suggesting airbox replacement ($1500)
3. High level brake light fault - diagnosed to be a faulty harness, suggesting harness replacement ($1000)

They also claimed the battery needed to be replaced at an additional $1000.

I feel like I can do the battery and harness DIY, but the airbox and pdk service are something I’d rather have them do.

Are their prices reasonable or are they trying to screw me?

They’re quoting $300/h labor compared to $230-250/h at an indie shop…

$300/hr is the highest dealer rate I have heard of by $75. Where are you located?

based on battery quote alone I think they are being unreasonable. Get other shop to diagnose.

when is the last time plugs were changed?

I’m in Seattle. The plugs were changed at 50k.

Replacing battery for $1000 is simply abusive, which leads me to believe the other quotes are as well.

So they will be working on your PDK for 10 hours. LOL

I would do some simple math and ask them how much time they spend on each job. And don't you just love it how they always come up with such round numbers.

i wonder if the advisors are on commission?

And many of them have no clue about anything techical. They repeat what the mechanic tells them.

Owning a Porsche reminds me a bit of owners of a very popular American motorcycle where they make you believe that you are damn lucky we let you own one. Remember what happened to Zenith TVs?

Im seriously contemplating switching brands due to how the only Por dealer here treats its customers..

Criminal like behavior

This is just flushing money down a toliet. The battery OEM should not be more than $400. Did they show you the crack in the airbox ? Hell you could sevice the pdk and tune it for that much aftermarket.

Please dont encourage their behavior and name the dealership so others know not to get ripped off.

I had my PDK service done as you describe at my Porsche dealer in June this year for $1200CDN, about $875USD. So sounds like an attempted fleecing to me. Not to mention the thousand dollar battery.

RennListUser01 11-23-2023 11:19 AM

That is just criminal.

Just find a trustworthy independent.

Turn your back on the criminals at the local stealership.

You can buy 5 AGM batteries for that price.

Thanks all for the confirmation, guys. I will definitely be talking to them sternly on Friday when they get back to me with more details and will check out and indie shop. I want to go over hours for each item and parts cost. I had figured I was getting fleeced here, but didn’t know how bad.

This is Porsche Bellevue (AutoNation) in Bellevue WA.

My experience is some dealers really want to punish you for buy a Porsche.

Get a decent independent or just email 5 dealers like I did and compare quotes, the pdk flush and calibration is a simple process well documented online and at you’re mileage is definitely an item to do regardless.

Exactly! He told me these were round numbers until he got the final labor and parts estimates, but wtf how long does it take to flush the pdk and recalibrate it??

I will be sitting down with them and going over everything with a fine toothed comb…ugh what a PITA.
