2800 miles in 9 days
I just completed a great trip through southern Appalachia with stops in Atlanta and Charleston before returning home to northern VA and this is really just an appreciation post to the car. I bought my first 911 ~6 months ago and this was a great way to really get to know it. Trip included several passes on tail of the dragon, the back of the dragon in tazewell, va as well as all of the greats in the smokeys and western nc mountains.
The car performed flawlessly and didn't give me a single hiccup at any point. Few pics below and @ the link. Happy driving all. https://photos.app.goo.gl/WzTMRQ4FQ1jnrEaj7 https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...b02803a35.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...04b2a7f80.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e5eb2d1ac.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...cf7f5fd9a.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f3d86bfb0.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...90a15c788.jpeg |

Great photos! Beautiful car! Congratulations!!!

Good looking car! Red is the best color for a sports vehicle. Great license plate, too. Go Nats!
How would you compare the Tail to the Back? I did the Back in March and the Tail last week and am curious on other folk's opinions on the two. |

How would you compare the Tail to the Back? I did the Back in March and the Tail last week and am curious on other folk's opinions on the two. -3x longer Way less crowded, I’ve run it twice and have only seen a handful of people on it. -way more technical the tail is cool, but the tail isn’t even the 5th best road in its own backyard. It’s iconic, you should do it for sure, but between the crowds and it being not even the main attraction to me, I hit it a few times in the morning and then move on with the days exploring. |
great post, car and road trip. would be a dream come true for me. thx for posting

its basically the tail of the dragon on steroids. It’s 33 miles, more technical, more elevation change, and you’re higher up to begin with so you’re really on the side of a mountain a whole lot more. All in all truly epic road. It’s in a relatively remote area so I don’t think it gets as much run because it’s not a built up attraction like the tail is, even though it’s a better road. I do this trip coming from northern VA and have made sure to hit it 2 years in a row now. It’s worth it. |
I did not know about the back of the dragon.
TOTD has been on my short list, but the BOTD is much closer. Thanks for the info!!! |
