Headlights pitted/ chipped
Any recommendations on if/how this can be repaired? Can this be polished maybe? I can’t really feel them when running my fingernails but I know it’s road-rash that led to this damage on both sides

generally speaking polishing these headlights leads to bad results. something about the UV coating.
talk to your local detailer who does PPF installation. they might be able to get them cleaned up for you and install much-needed PPF over them. |
When you see this, typically it is the result of the UV coating (clear coat) starting to delaminate. Some call it "crazing" but its the same thing either way. I have had this happen to every Porsche I have owned produced between 2012 and 2016. Recently I purchased a 991.1 C4S and the headlights were far worse than this. To fix this there are three options 1) Sand through the clear coat to the acrylic underneath starting with 800, working up to 3000 grit, once clear and polished you can seal with any number of UV coatings including clear coat, or some of the other products on the market. 2) Buy new headlights 3) Take it to an experienced detailer and they will likely do step 1 above. I chose to do step 3 several times, but this last time decided to do it for myself. Results were ok'ish enough that I don't think anyone would notice the few imperfections left behind.
Here are some before and after shots. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...36e6cabab.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...ea68803a4.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3d5f0fe6c.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...193109507.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3602b9f16.jpeg |
Interesting what you did with your DRL

Buy replacement shells from Paolo at Rennlights a RL sponsor.
PPF the headlights after replacing them from Rennlights. |
I recently had Paolo at Rennlights due my headlights. They are like new now and I had the blackout option done as well. The results are amazing. Recommend you check the website. He easy very easy to deal with and the process to remove your headlights and do the change over is very easy, no longer than an hour to do both.

@rob.james.arias Did you sand it by hand? Wet sand or dry?
