Default Seat wear (pics)

My new to me 2013 991has seat wear on the driver seat. I purchased the car with 12,000 km (not miles) and it now has 17,000 km. The section of the seat where my butt sits on has some pretty big wrinkles it and also is loose (I can press on it and it flops). I am not a big guy (only weight 150 pounds) and I am pretty careful about getting in and out. My seats are the 14 way power seats and I believe that they are vinyl. The river side where it's all wrinkled and floppy feels dry and like it will eventually rip.

Is there anything I can do do prevent the seats from getting worse and is this normal? The seats in my previous vehicles still looked new after several years and many miles. My car is a CPO vehicle but I do not believe something like this would be considered a warranty repair. Also, hard to see from the pics but the part that your butt sits on is floppy and feels loose from the seat foam.

I personally would use the seat the way it’s designed to be used. If it fails, repair or replace. I would not be extra careful getting in or out. It’s a car. The more you don’t treat it as something special the more you will enjoy it. IMO

It looks like the previous owner was the 400-pounder that was involved in the 2016 Democratic National Committee cyber hack.

Looks very normal. Definitely not a warranty repair. If you go over to the 981 GT4/718 GT4/991 GT3 forums, the bucket seats they have come with creases in the bolster with delivery miles. You could eventually consider replacing the seat leather many years from now, along with the foam. But this would definitely not be cost effective.

You can minimize bolster wear by getting in and out of the seat carefully, but as far as those creases, that is just from body weight in the seat. Even 30lbs would be enough to cause those creases over time.

Easy to to get rid of... It happened to me in my 997. Just apply leatherique rejuvenator oil in a very hot summer day. Put a black trash bag over it and let it bake all day. This will soften the leather fibers and the wrinkles will disappear.

My '18 GTS with 18.5k miles is showing wear on the backrest outer bolster. It bothers me, but I won't stop driving because of it. I bought color dye a year ago but I'm not confident enough to try it. Some day I'll have a Pro take care of it.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just leave it alone and deal with it if it tears in the future. I just thought it's a bit weird that they feel dry and hard and wrinkled with such low miles. Maybe these non-leather seats wear faster than the real leather seats.

I've had leather seats (and no leather seats. my last car had alcantara) in other cars that barely showed any wear with 100k kms.

Lmao

on a serious note I think you can use steam to straighten it out. I’m still laughing.

My fav part about getting to sort of "know" people online is when their ONE statement confirms everything you may have thought (about them)..

love it

Seat wear is strange at time. I wonder if there are quality control issues as some cars dont wear at all even after 50-75K miles

I’m in the leather upholstery business, first off please don’t steam the leather as suggested, that can irreversibly damage the cover. The correct way to fix that is take it to an automotive upholsterer who will remove the cover, replace the foam if needed, and re-sew the cover to be tight. It’s not that costly to do and should just be a one-time expense,
