checking / Changing oil on targa

Hey guys,

Quick question which might be stupid: Is it just me or it's looks quite complicated to access the oil cap on a Targa? it seems on the coupe there is a flap that opens for that, on the targa you can only open the roof mechanism, but I don't really understand how I'm supposed to get back there without making a mess...

Thanks

Put the top in the service position?

rockrdude 07-11-2019 11:50 AM

How?

The switch is located opposite of the trunk lid release at your driver side door sill.

yes that I know, however when opened it doesn't give you much room to work.

never mind, found this video. I guess you have to work in the tight space, no choice.

I know lol, I thought there might have been a latch to pull the back up to facilitate access, I guess even german engineers aren’t perfect

It's not as bad as you think, and even easier than the position the guy in the video is in.

Start by pulling the button to put the rear dome in the "service position", - BUT - let go of the button about midway in the process. This will balance the glass dome on the support hinges and allow you to access the fluids from the rear of the car. It's only slightly cumbersome this way, versus trying to get back there if the glass dome is fully in the service position. Use this method for cleaning the rear glass also. Unless you're under 30 years old.

The engineers actually did a great job considering how the tops works, which I will gladly accept to get the best looking 911 variation. Needless to say I have one and I assume everyone thinks there car is the best so let's leave it there.

All of this nonsense, complication and contortion so that a 2x3 ft. Panel can electronically drop into the back of the car once in a while. Is this really considered forward progress?

And lets not even even talk about the environmental impact of the 67 plastic covers used in the making of this “how to“ video that will now be in a landfill forever :roflmao:
