Default Headlight pitting correction

so my .2 headlights are lightly pitted and really only noticeable when the lights are on (mostly at night). Aside from replacing can anything be done? I’m getting my hood and front bumper repainted next week because the paint chips are bothering the hell outta me and will definitely be adding PPF but curious if there’s an advantage to addressing the headlight issue while the bumper is off. Thoughts?

There's now way you are going to be able to level off enough surface to make them go away. Ask a quality PPF installer about covering them, and IF it will improve your issue.

I have wet sanded and polished lenses on other cars in the past. You end up having to sand through the coating that is on the lens and then polishing. Then you can clear film them. It is time consuming but possible.

My PPF installer said Porsche will not warranty the lights if PPF is on it. He is an XPEL dealer.

Wonder why ?

The headlight assembly easily pops out so the bumper removal doesn’t matter. If the chips really bother you with the lights on you can either replace them or refinish them with sanding and polishing if the pitting isn’t too deep. Then put on a PPF to reduce future rock impacts and to provide UV protection.

The lights have a factory applied hard coating that is prone to peeling. The film can, in some cases, cause the coating to peel especially if applied wrong.

My Xpel installer basically said there was a 10% chance that while installing the film the lights could be damaged.

I had them do the film. So far so good.

My thoughts were that it is 100% certain these lights will get sand blasted without film.

When I said i'm definitely getting PPF i meant on the car not the headlights.

I've heard that my insurance company will cover the headlights under the comprehensive coverage so I may explorer that option. I had rat damage on my E63 engine insulation pad which my insurance covered($8500 bill) with no ill effect on my policy. If that works I might have them replace the windshield for the same reasons but i'm not sure it'll get covered.

I have a 991.2 with headlights done with Suntek, had them redone due to cosmetics. Upon removal got a small spot on one light that pulled the coating, installer wet sanded and polished and put new PPF on. Looks perfect and OEM. There is risk with PPF but when they get pitted, I think that looks terrible. If you drive the car on public roads it’s happening already, guess what, you are chipping the coatings. Pick your poison.

If someone wants them done the correct way take them out and send them to MoeMistry, who will PPF them for you.

Can they be ceramic coated to help against pitting?

NEVER look at your headlights with the lights on.

No longer the case on the .2's, Porsche decided to make it harder.
