I Think You PDK Shiftin' Guys Are Onto Somethin'
First, I must say that I learn a lot from reading stuff on here. Thanks to all; this is my first Porsche, and I need all the help I can get. One of the things I researched here and elsewhere was how to properly break in the engine. Since I plan on keeping her until the sun consumes the earth, and therefore my 911, I decided to go with the method of keeping the engine speed below 4K for the first 2K miles, but varying the speed. I picked the car up at the center in 'Lanta and had a 1000 mile drive to get it home. It seemed to me the way to break it in on this drive was to drive it home in manual (it's a PDK) and shift the gears every 15-20 minutes. I noticed, while researching this, that there were a LOT of people that said they have the PDK and drive the car in manual. I remember thinking 'that's odd'. But driving this car for 11 hours and shifting with the paddles was just an absolute ton of fun. I think I'm getting why you guys would do that; it's kinda the best of both worlds - auto and manual. 11 hour drive and I wasn't bored for a minute. I'm still breaking it in, and I'm not sure I really wanna go to the PDK when I get it done. I'll tell ya one thing - there's a cruise control somewhere on this car, and I don't know where it is, and I don't care...

Congratulations, you're going to have fun!
Took mine home from ATL as well and limited revs to 3k, and since it's a manual, kept rowing from 7 to 6 the entire ride back and only wound it out after passing 2k miles.
Drove it hard in 2 and 3 after that point whenever I had a chance. Changed the oil and filter around 2k and I will change again at 7.5k or when the first year is up.
Sent in for a baseline oil report which was normal. Oil level shows no change so good there.
If you get your due diligence in, it'll be fine.

You know about 'paddle neutral' right? Click both paddles simultaneously.

thanks, SR. she's a 991.2, C2S, guards red. tan interior (it gets hot as you-know-what here in south TX). most upgrades are cosmetic; my performance upgrade was going from the base to the S. i'll drop a pic or two in a minute

Sent an oil sample to Blackstone Labs when I did my first oil change. They do an analysis of the oil as to its content and compare it to "normal" values for used oil and the engine type.
I have read a few posts that these analyses may not be as valid as we think they are, may reconsider sending further samples.

If you want to do something else than what Porsche recommends, who am I to say differently?
