Porsche 991.1 vs 991.2

Porsche 991.1 vs 991.2
People usually recommend not to buy the first year of a model. Is this true for incremental upgrades like the 2017 991.2? Ie. Would you recommend not purchasing the 2017 991.2 because it's the first year of the model?
Also, general opinions on 991.1 vs 991.2? And if I'm looking to buy either, would waiting until November (for 992 release) significantly reduce prices for pre-owned?

You can always get a lemon or a car that was abused by the previous owner. You may also encounter inept dealers. Check out the long thread on C4S turbo failures.

Too wary to tell about the 991.2 models, but the water pump seemed to be the only issue. If I was you, but the model that best suits you. If you want NA, 991.1, if you want the grunt and ease of driving around town, 991.2. Both are solid.

Prices may go down in the Fall, but that would more likely due to slowing seasonal demand, not the higher priced 992's. There have been some water pump failures, but not many percentage-wise. My 2017 was built in June 16, and so far is perfect.
If you want a lot of grunt, the 991.2's have huge grunt compared to the 991.1's. And if you are into sport driving, get one with Sport Pkg. RAS was not available on 991.1's. The .2 is only 4 seconds faster on the Nordschlief but it's performance is worlds apart on the street.
And the .2's are hugely upgradeable at very reasonable cost with a tune, or in the case of the .2 S, with dealer-installed X51 PowerKit. Forget power upgrades with a .1 - they are either very expensive or yield very little power.
I traded my .1 C2S for a .2 C2S and upgraded X51 PowerKit for $3800+tax. And it carries full Porsche warranty. The difference in power between my 991's amazes me every time i drive my .2. My peak accerations went from about .75 g to .95 g, without launching either one.
If you are not into torquey grunt, the .1 is a great sportscar, but does require higher rpm for higher performance.
Having owned both, that's my opinion.

Otherwise, the .1 vs .2 discussion is over so read the old threads or better yet, Google it. And the best way to decide is drive them both, which will answer your question.

There should be a "vote-down" feature on RL...as in, if enough people vote a thread down, it's gone.
Would probably clean up the value threads over in the GT sections, as well.
To the OP: I am sure you asked with nothing but good intentions, but this is scorched earth.

I would not worry much about early 991.2 reliability. My advice is to drive both and buy on the merits of what you like better. These are 2 substantially different cars experience-wise.
And yes, I'd vote this thread down

i was debating a .1 S vs .2 base and went w/ the .2 after driving both. i appreciated the extra torque and just felt more refined overall as a DD. of course the .1 sounds better but that was outweighed to me by .2 improvements overall

I just did the same. Was shopping for a 991 S but the prices are so close to a 991.2 base.

Was just in Oslo Norway last week and stopped in to see 992. This baby has curves and is what you need 😄
Oh and dont complain about North American prices - this unit is Cdn$323,000 after mega non-electric-car taxes.
