When orange peel is so severe it can look like “tiny dents” up close....
I’m the type of weirdo who will literally kneel alongside my car and “scan” it in different lightings so I know every nook and crevice of the body. Seriously, if somebody saw me they’d think I’m a legit crazy person.
One thing I notice from this (that those who don’t go all “magnify glass” won’t) is orange peel. All cars got it, and oh boy the 991 sure ain’t an exception. Sometimes I see ones that seem so deep they almost look like needle point dings. Drives me nuts when I can’t figure out if it is one, then I guess I find comfort in the fact that “meh, not being able to tell goes to show how close it is to orange peel anyway.” Also in various areas of the car (around the door handles, for one) you’ll notice subtle creases that in very close scanning in just the right lighting can play with your mind as whether it’s a deformation or normal (all cars have this as well).
I brought that up to a PDR guy and he said he’s seen some orange peel areas so deep that he could (or did) pull them out with his glue device, which I found interesting.
Anyone notice similar things?

Get your paint corrected. The difference will be transformative. And get off your knees, man.

It doesn’t bother me too much but it is a pretty crazy amount of orange peel when you really get up close to it. From even minor distance it looks perfectly smooth. Didn’t know that a correction can rid orange peel.

I haven't examined my nightblue car up close to detect any defects in the paint. Looks very nice to me but my eyesight isn't what it used to be. The metallic paint also appears to be much more resilient compared to the non-metallic paints like GR. The GR Boxster I used to own had poor quality paint that chipped very easily.
The Xpel film at the front of my current car has also held up very well through two NH winters.

Those come from a naturally aspirated sprayer ....... just kidding.
That's the nice thing about getting older.... I can't see that well to see the flaws in the paint, and I really don't put that much thought into it.

Agree, wet sanding can make it go away but you will thin your clearcoat so don't over do it. The paint on my 2019 is one of the best I have seen on a new car so maybe they improved the process. I had a C7 before this car and that had real bad orange peel, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I did a paint correction on my Carrera T the day after I picked it up from the dealer, without them ever touching the paint. Mine looks smooth as glass. I can see it with my face on the hood and it looks as smooth as it can get.
A good paint correction should get rid of all those defects.

I stop by my dealership from time to time to bs with some of the guys, so I see a good number of cars come and go. I have seen some where the orange peel is so bad, it doesn't pass the 25' test, let alone the 5' test. I've seen a couple bad enough that If I had ordered that car, I would have refused delivery until properly remedied.

Paint correction! Mine looked horrible from previous owners clear lack of ability to wash properly, and orange peel of course. Now, the paint looks fantastic. Most folks wouldn't even realize it's a 7-year old car.
