I'm done with so called wheel cleaners

I've been using Sonax and another recommended wheel cleaners on my GTS wheels. Even with using Hydes Rust Stopper my rotors rusted. Today I washed the car and on the last one I thought I'd try something different. I cleaned the wheel with Simple Green and "No Rust".

I always keep Simple Green around, it's a good product. These steel rotors will always rust a bit no matter what you do.

I used car soap usually, unless it's heavily caked on. I which case, the Sonax is used.

Coat your wheels with some ceramic coating or Spray and Seal. Really helps when it comes time to clean.

Thanks, but as I said I'm done with Sonax. My wheels don't get too bad, I wash the car at least once a week. Old, retired, nothing better to do.

No, just the regular SG, but I will check that stuff out. Thanks,

I am going to have to try out simple green. If it prevents my brakes from rusting as much and not having to use Hydes, I am all in. Thanks for the recommendation.

Your brakes WILL rust after washing your car and/or wheels. The simplest thing to do is DRIVE THE CAR immediately after it is dry. The friction from application of the brakes will dry the rotors and thus prevent rust. I do not do this since the rust comes off as soon as you apply the brakes to a car with rusted rotors. Also, I use Windex to clean my wheels. It is cheap and does a great job.

I just use soap and water, I do however dry the car with a high powered left blower and I don’t get rust on the rotors as they are blown dry.

Did you look at my pictures? I did use Hydes on both. Your next statement "DRIVE THE CAR" where do you think that rust goes after you drive the car? It ends up on your wheels. I'm just telling people what I learned today. Do as you wish.

I don't use any of that stuff. Just use Dawn dish detergent (WHEELS ONLY) as it is a decent degreaser. Use a separate mitt obviously.
Use compressed are or take car around the block to get the water out of the rotors.

GKGEIGER 06-09-2019 03:07 PM

Dawn has a lot if uses.

Sorry, all I know is that when I drive the car the rust disappears from the rotors and does not reappear anywhere else on the body. I have been doing this for 45 years with 4-wheel disc brakes on Porsches and have never been confronted with a problem. Please do as you wish.

I guess we’re both happy then. Congrats on your 45 years of Porsche ownership, I’m 6 months in, but at 75 I’ve owned a lot of different iron.

Sorry, I have owned 6 Porsches purchased when new. I am now 75 yoa and bought my first when I was 40 yoa. The first was in 1974 and the current is the 2015 GTS you see in the avatar. Please look at the avatar that advertises my former Porsches with a website you can visit. They all functioned well with the formulas I suggest. I believe my 45 years of dealing with Porsches must not be worth your evaluation. Thanks. Let's wish for 45 more years of Porsches.
