is there a way for the AC to not turn on every time i start the car? I read a thread that say cars with the memory package can be set to do that but my car isn't equipped wit the memory package.

i have the memory package and i have not found a way to stop the ac from coming on each time either... i tried saving the key settings on memory with the ac off but each time it keeps coming on

You can turn off the AC by pushing the AC button. The red light will tell you that the AC is off. The problem is you cannot turn the blowers off.

Clicking the center fan toggle control switch to the lowest point (pull backward) should shut the blower and the whole system off.

there is no way to do this, unfortunately it is also on other makes, my m3 has the same annoying thing, I can turn off the ac, but next time I start the car (after several minutes) the ac is back on.

Ditto, you can disable the AC but not the fans. Search this forum and you will see that it has been discussed and tried by many over the years.

I think the default auto stop/start is worse!

That doesn't bother me so much as I always turn to individual(PSE/Sport) before i start driving.

Context - I live in Seattle and got this car in February, so there haven't been many days to really test the ac.

Disclaimer aside - are you positive that the ac is on when then the light is off?

I realize the manual states this is how it works. The reason i ask is:
- my air sure seems to blow colder when I hit the ac button and the light comes on,
- there doesn't seem to be consistency with whether an illuminated light means on or off - auto stop function is Off when illuminated.
- if the ac really is off when the button is not illuminated, wouldn't that mean that the Max ac is also always on (as the button is also not illuminated as the default)?

Funny that I noticed the same thing the last time I drove the car in that some illuminated switches mean on and others mean off. In regards to the AC & Max AC, the switch for each is illuminated when each is on.

I agree, but that is contrary to what has been expressed in this and prior threads.

I'm beginning to think how the switch operates changed between the 2016 and 2017 model years.

2017: Page 47 of the online manual confirms the ac is off when the light is not illuminated (which means in my car ac is off by default):

  The cooling function is activated.

Switching off the cooling function
The cooling function can be switched off manually to save fuel, for example.

A/C mode can be switched off manually to save fuel, for example.

• Press button A/C OFF.

Mine is a 2019 and operates the same as the 2017 so that makes sense; change made with the 991.2.
