2019 gts or 2017 turbo
I’m trying to choose between two CPO cars. A 2019 gts (not 4) and a 2017 turbo (non s). Both cars are cabs, both have less than 5k miles. The turbo is roughly $20k more than the gts. (There is also a 2011 CPO 997 turbo s with 17k miles for much less than either of the above in consideration).
It’s going to be a DD in Florida.
FWIW, Ive owned a 996 c2, 997tt and a first year 991 c4. I can no longer drive a MT, but my 996 was the most fun to throw around, the 997 tt was the most fun period and I didn’t think much of the 991 (didn’t like the steering- the 991.2 is much better)
I would probably replace whatever I buy when the 992 turbo (or hybrid) shows up.
I’m not terribly concerned about depreciation.
What are your thoughts?

Too tough for me to make a call without seeing the build sheets and besides, since they are both Cabs (great choice) I would go with the 2019 since you may be getting a 992 T.

Seems you really liked the 997TT in the past, why not do it again? Then, when you jump to the 992 plateform in a year or 2, you'll feel the impact of the change more significantly.

997 - you know you like it. If you love it, just keep it when you get your 992. There are plenty of 991 cars around, and will be for a while.

I know hes not too concerned with depreciation, but it’s not like he’s making much of a sacrifice.
At the end of the day, he’s better off driving both then deciding.

I haven’t been able to drive a 991.2 turbo, the one I’m interested in is far away and the local dealer didn’t have a used turbo in stock. The gts is fun.
I’m ten years older than when I had my 997, I liked the ride in the 991.2 better.
I’m curious to feel the 4 wheel steering

Not exactly the options you considering, but FWIW I came from 991.1 GTS (NA obviously) MT to 991.1 TTS. These two are completely different cars. I am still contemplating on getting a GT3 Touring MT or even buying another 991.1 MT GTS. However, my TTS is staying for a foreseeable future. I love it.
991.2 GTS being FI-d is a bit closer to the Turbo, esp. if equipped with PDK tranny, however, I'd take the Turbo over 991.2 GTS any day. I considered 991.2 GTS at one point, but it is overshadowed by the Turbo. I am sure you know this

I’m 99% there with the ‘17 turbo.
I was driving with my BIL in my 07 tt, on an interstate on-ramp, he said “nail it”. I did and he literally screamed. I’ve missed that feeling ever since I stupidly sold it.

19 GTS much better sound, and handling.

It will lap the ring faster than a Turbo... It makes up for the "lack of power/tq" somewhere don't it?
The GTS is lighter and the RWD definitely makes the car more tossable along with better steering feel/input. Not to get into a 2 vs 4 debate but the steering is noticeably better in the RWD models.

Not sure someone in CA can tell someone in FL which is the better 911 for their use, but I'd go with the 991.2 Carrera GTS if you don't need or value AWD where you're at.
Of course the thrust of a modern 911 wearing a "Turbo" badge on its tail is hard to ignore, but the 991.2 is just a very, very good generation for the 911—and the 991.2 GTS combines the firepower of Turbos not so old with delivery character not so dissimilar to NA engines of not so old. Then there's the "little" stuff, like the latest EPAS, the more modern PCM, the 918-style steering wheel, etc.
YMMV...
