Default SOUL 991.2 w/o PSE street package install thread

I ordered and just received the Should Performance 991.2 (without PSE) street package for my 2018 C2S. The street package includes the sport cats and the performance exhaust system with anti drone tubes. My car currently has 6500 miles on it. I plan to thoroughly document the install so am starting a thread. It will likely be Thursday next week before I have a chance to do the install and will update this thread at that time. I am pretty active on instagram (@scottsrides) and will have step by step video clips in my daily story that I will save on my profile as well as a youtube video after I am done. Including before and after sound clips with a sound meter showing the decibel levels.

I was perfectly happy with my stock exhaust and had no thoughts of upgrading until a couple weeks ago when a buddy let me drive his brand new GT3RS for 800+ miles one week with an aftermarket exhaust installed (including headers and cat delete). In fact I specifically ordered my car new without the PSE for a couple reasons. One I preferred the look of the dual outlets on both sides of the bumper and two I didn't want any extra noise because one of my other cars is very loud and that gets old at times. However after driving the 3RS around all week the next time I got in my car it sounded like a Tesla! Now my buddies car was way to aggressive sound wise for my taste but it did give me the itch for a little more aggressive sound. I started looking at the options. Called a few manufacturers, watched videos, read forum posts and decided Soul was the best choice for what I was looking for. Dealt with John B. at Soul and he was very helpful and great to work with.

I received the parts today and unboxed everything. Very nicely constructed. Took some sound clips with the stock exhaust. Also weighted the new components. Will make a comparison after I take the stock parts off. The exhaust pipe and brackets were 17.0 lbs and the sport cats were 5.8 lbs each for a total of 28.6 lbs. Here are the parts as they arrived. Will follow up next week with the install process.

Got everything prepped when I got home from work today and will be doing the install tomorrow. Will update the thread when I get done. I did take some videos with the before decibel readings so I can compare to the after. Check out my daily instagram story tomorrow @scottsrides for step by step video updates.

Not sure I really needed to take the rear wheels off but figured it would give me a little more room to work and make life a little easier. Plus it will give me a good chance to clean up the wheels really good. Looking forward to doing this install. I enjoy working on cars as much as driving them so it will be a fun project.

Soul says no.
Looking at it I don’t think I will need to for any reason. Having the rear jacked up and also on the lift looks like it will make life easier.

Got a fair amount done today. I have confirmed you do NOT need to take the bumper off. It is tight but doable. Having the rear wheels off has been very helpful though.

You start by taking the heat shields off of the cats and turbos. They are held on by 4 screws each. 3 are pretty easy to access on each and that 4th one is a really tough one to get to. Once you get the heat shields off it is all pretty straight forward. At this point I have the new cats and pipe mounted up. Did run into one issue. Apparently there are some slight differences between the base and the S model exhaust. SOUL did their development with the base model. Mine appears to be the first S model non PSE car they have sold a system for. (I understand mine is a rare combo as most with the S also go PSE) We discovered one of the differences is how the quad exhaust tips will line up. The stock ones were not going to work. I have been in contact with SOUL and they have absolutely gone above and beyond to provide a quick solution at their expense. Really impressed with the customer service side of their operation. I have talked with 4 different people now and everyone has been great. That sort of attitude when dealing with a vendor goes a long way in my book. There are so many variations of 911s it must be a difficult task working out all the fine differences. I dont mind the hiccup when dealing with people willing to do whatever it takes to make it right.

It was about 90 in the garage today and I just got to the point after a few hours that it wasn't fun anymore so I packed it in for the day. SOUL is overnighting me some different exhaust tips. I will get back on it tomorrow. Here a a few pictures of the old and new system and where I am at with the mounting.

What I have left to do is reinstall the 4 O2 sensors, installl the heat shield, install the pieces that go between the pipe and the exhaust outlets and also the exhaust outlets.
A couple thoughts so far:
System is very nicely built.
This is mostly a one man job but when it came time to pulling the old system out I recruited a neighbor. The parts coming out were 41 pounds (12.5 lbs heavier than the new system) and it was a little tricky to try to maneuver out of the tight space and balance it all at the same time. If you have an extra set of hands I highly recommend it for that part.
I was able to get the new pipe and cats in by myself but it was pretty tricky. The way it fits together you have to loosely construct it as one unit on the ground and then work it all into position. You do have to leave the clamps for the cats loose to get everything to line up so it makes it a challenge getting it into position because the cats want to rotate on you.
I am somewhat experienced mechanically and find this to be a good DIY project. Would not say it is overly hard. Then hardest part so far has been getting the heat shields off. If you like working on cars you can do this job.

Will post more tomorrow and get the video of the install up on youtube hopefully this weekend.
Fire away with any questions.

Keep up the great work Scott! Your temporary tips are in the mail and will arrive tomorrow. The OEM Base Model Non-PSE tips (needed to convert this package to S Non PSE Fitment) are ordered from our good friends at Suncoast Porsche in Polished Chrome and should be there middle of next week if all goes well with the holiday weekend. We appreciate your patience and very much look forward to seeing this full kit come to conclusion on this relatively rare combination of yours

Best regards,

Will be posting some before/after videos and decibel readings in a few days when I have time to edit the video. I am excited to hear it in person.

Finished the install yesterday and really love the new sound. (well 98% finished. As previously mentioned SOUL has sent me some temporary exhaust tips to use until the ones they ordered for my car come in next week. Will simply swap those out and make a final alignment of the tip outlet at that time. For clarification my non PSE S model is rare and has some differences from the Base model and they had not done one of those before or had access to a car with that setup for development. I believe a better option for using the stock tips may be developed if you have this setup. You do need to be aware as it sits now the stock tips don't work great. SOUL went above and beyond to make it right for me at their expense!)

Just have had time for one quick test run. Love the pops and burbles. Didn't really have an opportunity to get on it to hard to see if there was any different seat of the pants performance feel. Honestly not really expecting any. My main motivation for this install was for the sound. I do love how you can hear the turbos more pronounced now. In car noise with the windows up or down is not to loud and I didn't notice much if any drone. I will report back more as I put some miles on it.

From a DIY install perspective this job was very doable for the average shade tree mechanic.
Seriously the hardest part was getting the 4 torx screws out of the heat shields that wrap around the turbo and cats. Actually 3 of them were easy and the 4th was the only problem but doable. Taking the wheels off definitely helped access to that 4th screw. Not sure I could have got to them with the wheels in place.
SOUL says you do not need to take the bumper off. I did not and it is very doable. It is tight getting the old system out with the bumper in place. For a minute there at that step I was thinking maybe I should take it off but am glad I ended up leaving it on. I found when everything was disconnected and you are ready to pull the old system out if you loosen the clamps where the stock cats go into the muffler that made it a lot easier to wiggle out and drop the system. You are working over your head and the parts coming out were 41 pounds so having a helper is useful for that step.
The components going in are smaller than the stock stuff you took out so putting things back together was quite easy. You will want to be careful on removal of the gaskets that go between the Cat and the turbo. IF they are in good condition you can reuse them.

I have extensively documented this install with video clips and descriptions on my instagram. I am working on a youtube video in the coming days. Need to get some more driving sound clips. Will post the link in this thread when I finish. If you want to see the step by step install on instagram it is saved in my account @scottsrides in the profile as I have circled below in green. If you are not on insta you can google my account name and watch the videos I posted with a few drive by shots in the normal feed but won't be able to view the entire saved story without signing in. The drive by videos will give you a short idea of how it sounds. That post is circled in red in the below photo. If anyone has any install questions or other questions fire away.

Here is the YouTube link that pretty much sums it all up.

I did make a list of the before and after sound readings from my decibel meter. Not sure how accurate my recording method is but at least gives an idea. The sound output in general across the entire range of operation is exactly what I was hoping for. Not annoyingly loud, minimal to no drone and nice aggressive sound,

Cold start Stock - 89 DB, SOUL - 97 DB +8 over stock
Stable idle Stock - 75DB, SOUL - 82 DB +7 over stock
parked interior idle Stock - 56 DB, SOUL - 66DB +10 over stock
parked 4000 rpm Stock - 70 DB, SOUL - 79DB +9 over stock

Thanks for putting such an effort to produce quality content. I followed you on instagram as well. I'm eyeing this same setup for my 4S and i am curious to see your new tips and see how they look. Would you be able to do a quick video of how it sounds in the cabin in normal 65-80 mph driving on the freeway with the windows rolled up. This will define whether I buy this setup or not. Would like to be able to turn it on or off
