Default Mobil-1 0W40

Anyone have 90,000 plus on their 911 and have used Mobil-1 0W40 for the entire time? Just trying to determine if you meet this criteria and have had no issues with your engine. I once got to 170,000 miles on a Mercedes but the vehicle used oil near the end.

Thanks

Default Oil

This tread will probably start another oil debate. I bet there are thousand of engines using Mobil 1 with over 300,000 miles.

Mobil is again doing their rebates on Mobil 1. They’ll rebate you $12 for a 5qt jug. tWalmart sells them for $23. $11 for 5 quarts is hard to beat. Max 4 per address.

Im not an expert on this (and have no ‘dog in this race’) but, from what I’ve read on here, the consensus seems to be on here that Mobil One’s formulation is not what it once was since being bought out by Exxon & that only the “European” version is good now, with the US formulation all about MPGs & emissions. Again, that’s just what people like to say on here - I’ve never had a car long enough to know if ANY oil will get the engine to 300k.

What do people recommend, if not Mobil One? Motul?

Isn’t the 0w-40 sold in USA called “European” formula?

I get a different packaging here, gold label Mobil 1 FS 0w-40

If Porsche approves Mobil 1 in a car that will likely see track use, they have at least some faith that it provides the protection that they demand.

Mobil 0W40 is a good product.
Mobil 5W50 is the better product.
Use the 0W40 if you drive in the winter.
Use the 5W50 if you don't drive in the winter.

Use any one of the +100 Porsche A40 approved oils, change it every 5,000 miles (and yearly for low mileage cars), and you'll be just fine.

Pick one.

Change at regular intervals for your driving habits.

Enjoy.

My local Indy runs a large 996 race team. They only run 0W40 Mobil One street or race.

But, I ignore my Indy and Porsche Factory recommendations.

I only run a special imported oil, formula is top secret and of course, very expensive. Aftermarket parts sellers know so much more than those darn Porsche Engineers and race teams.

Nothing but the best for my highly collectible 996.

After all, its a Porsche.

Do they ever make it out of the paddock?

No

But they look good

Seriously,10 plus years racing many 996 not a single engine failure where Mobile One was the cause of premature wear or engine failure.

Real world. Not internet hype
