Manual Shifting Click

Hi guys, I have a 2015 991.1, manual, 14k kmís on it. So, Iím kind of new to the brand but can you help me out with a question?

When I shift from first to second, or second to third (mostly felt in the lower gears) it sort of clicks when I get the shifter in the bottom of the shift gates. I usually shift between 3k to 3.5k rpm. Iíve owned other manual cars, but Iíve never seen this behaviour. I clutch in, slide the shifter out of, letís say, first gear and pull it down to second. When I get to the point that the shifter is almost at the bottom of the gate - it seems to slot in or click (without the sound), almost like the shifter fits into a notch - release the clutch and Iím in the new gear.

Is this simply a characteristic of Porsche? Is this normal? Again, it happens predominately in the lower gears.

moreover, what rpm gives you the best shifting - I find shifting from first to second a little rough if Iím not around 3,500 or above. Iíve driven manual for over a decade.

Thanks for your help and comments

You have less than 9,000 miles on that tranny. Those shifts (1 to 2, and 2 to 3) are a bit notchy. Your trans will improve with more miles and more muscle memory.

When the car is cold, and the oil below 190 you should shift at max 4,000 rpm. Once up to temp (>190), I shift most often in the powerband of 4,500-5,500.

Do you have Sport Chrono?

excellent information!! Thanks. Lex van
I got a 2013 MT C2S. The shifting definitely gets better when the car warms up. 190 degree oil temperature rule. I am gonna follow it.
