Just posting this here because I know a few of you have the base engine in your Carreras and Carrera Ts.
What do you guys think of the $900 VR tune? And it can come with a $200 Bluetooth option. it sure sure is a major power improvement, and it sure would be nice not to have to crack the factory ECU, and to do a major tune and leave no tracks...

He got roughly 30-35whp I believe. The AFRs were kinda off though, however I think the dyno operator had incorrect setup.
Generally speaking, piggyback tunes are pretty mild compared to the flash tunes. This one is a 3 channel (boost through the TMAP, fueling through fuel rail pressure sensor, and I think the throttle body though I'm unsure about the latter).
The unit basically goes in-between the sensor output and the DME input, stepping down the voltage being inputted into the DME to think it needs more fuel/boost. DME in reaction increases the allowed limits, intern improving power output. Neat thing is that the DME is still reading factory values, so no really anomalies are logged...
That said, I'd avoid the VR tuned unit for a couple reasons:
1.) Piggy backs generally aren't as refined feeling as a flash tune. The 92A platform seems to have an ECU and nannies which are quite intrusive. This combination probably wouldn't achieve the smoothest performance gain, and would eat into the refinement of the car.
2.) It's a pain in the *** to install. Basically have to take apart the entire intake and intercooler plumbing to get to the sensors. At that point, it's easier to just remove the DME and get it unlocked. Piggy back might help with warranty preservation, however removing it overtime you take the car in will be a pain in the ***.

Look at Cobb, I had it installed recently and ran into some issues, however I'm not entirely sure if I'm allowed to reveal it or not, but lets just say they will soon be rolling out a service that addresses mods and each cars specific reaction to the OTS tune individually.

It was fun. And hot! Had to leave a bit early. Just went out to the garage fridge, and it is 96 in there, on the East side of the house. Hot!
Hot again tomorrow for the Napleton customer appreciation day at Autobahn CC, too.
It seems we are stuck in this pattern till tropical storm Barry is fully dissipated and totally gone from the National weather map.

A bit off topic. Fellow Chicago rennlisters, for those who don't know, the glorious state of Illinois is dropping the tax break on trade ins (cap at 10k difference tax break, same difference for P-cars) next year.
I hope it backfires and people move away or buy their cars off state. I know the latter won't matter for the state but it will the dealers put pressure.

I like Chicago and it will always be my home...this plus other policies leave a sour taste.

That is sad news. It seems the Machine nowadays gets whatever they want in both Chicago and Peoria, with little opposition. They now dominate both Chicago and State politics. 😞
