Default Manual transmission .... 2014 C4S

Hi all. Just got a 2014 C4S. Coming from a 997.2 with PDK.

When releasing the clutch I feel a lot of mechanical movement from the chassis. A “clunck”/thud of sorts. I’ve driven manual all my life so that should not be the issue. It happens when moving from a stop and while on the go. Release is high and if I bleep I may avoid it ... but not always.

Is this the nature of the beast or are the mounts failing? I did the 3rd gear, low rpms and uphill pull and clutch behaves very well.

Service guy says it is normal for a performance car. States it is gear “whip lash” from a high power engine.

Thoughts? Any test I should run?

My C7 had it at times and I hated it, and it was just one of the reasons I got rid of it, but I have not experienced in my 991.2, nor the 3 manual P-cars I have had in the past.

The clutch is really heavy on these cars, you need to be gentle releasing it to get it to shift smoothly.

Default 2017 C2S

There is another thread about this. I get a slight clunk whenever I shift into 1st or reverse while stopped. Something to do with the input shaft as I recall. It seems to be normal operation.

Sounds like driveline lash? I've only had it in my trucks. My Land Cruiser has it occasionally.

I don't think it's something to simply accept in a Porsche - I've never driven one that had it. Motor mounts/transmission mounts come to mind. CV joints and diff.

Edit: I noticed you said you are blipping on upshift. My s2000 had a tendency to quickly drop RPMs and I would have to blip on upshifts occasionally to keep it smooth. I had a GT4 and have driven manual 911s and never saw anything like that.

Off topic.... curious what series Land Cruiser you have. Been eyeing a Macan replacement.

2013 MT with 20k miles here. Mine does not behave that way.

It's a 2016 200 series.

We love it. Comfortable, indestructible. I can go off the grid and feel confident that I'm pretty much able to get out of any jam I might find myself in.

That said - it's pretty much the opposite of a Macan. It drives like the body on frame truck that it is.
