How irritating, and unacceptable. Porsche should step up and cover most or all at least with a refurb tranny. These threads worry all of us. I plan on keeping this car for a long time, but I also hope to buy other Porsche’s in addition to my 911. Really makes me wonder if Porsche is willing to stand behind their products.

Totally agree - a huge reason I sold my 335i and bought this car was because I was worried about the long-term longevity of a turbo engine; was hoping a NA car would be much more reliable long-term. I really wanted this to be my forever car, but doesn't seem like it's such a good idea anymore.

It’s always a crapshoot with any car, new or used. Don’t let it drag you down. It would be good if Porsche is able to cover at least half of the bill. I mean 30k miles is nothing.

Hopefully goodwill comes through to help out. I just bought my first PCar for my 30th as well, and looked for CPO specifically because of stories like this. I know it appears to be a fairly rare failure, but a 16k bill on a car is no joke. Good luck and keep us updated.

I am starting to worry about this PDK tranny. Maybe I should buy the extended warranty now.

This is terrible to hear. Fingers crossed Porsche steps up. Some here have claimed having the auto stop/start on can lead to a higher chance of pdk failure. Any chance you could share if you kept it on or off while driving?

I wouldn’t rush to bailing on your cars. I have a 2014 Carrera 4S with a little over 90,000 miles of driving and probably 40 plus days of track use with zero transmission problems.
Sorry to hear about your problems and hope it works out for you.

Default bummer

I would go used then dump it. another great reasom to learn how to use that 3rd pedal. When the PDKs shift at WOT it sounds violent. I am not a mechanic but have to imagine parts coming together that violently can cause early failure.

Sorry to hear about that, things break all the time , it's frustrating to spend money on cars and your home when we could be taking vacations with the money, used pdk's can be bought for 6k-9k used online, I would look into a indy shop installing one for you and then enjoy driving the hell out of it to recoup your money's worth!

The saddest part is they consider the entire $16k transmission a non-servicable unit, when the issue could be as simple as a bad electronic solenoid.

i would seriously expect PCNA to come through with 50-75% of the cost to address this on a sub-40k-mile car. It's not as though it could even be user error with a PDK.

sorry about your troubles and thanks for keeping us posted.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes!

I have an update - unfortunately PCNA has declined to participate in the repair. My dealer has graciously offered to help me out by cutting $3K from the price, but I'm still out of pocket $13K

I just posted an article to Medium about where my love for the 911 came from and the debacle which I'm also planning to tweet to PCNA - if you read it, I hope you enjoy!

Will also keep everyone posted on if tweeting them directly changes anything. Thanks for your support!

I would contact PCNA directly about this (via email/phone call). The car has under 40k miles - the transmission should not fail! If you had closer to 100k, okay, things break. But under 40k miles? Ridiculous.
