New(ish) Member & Car - 991.1 S
Howdy Rennlisters. Finally realized a near lifelong dream and got my first Porsche. I began hunting in earnest late last year and was having trouble finding the perfect used car. I really wanted the last non-forced induction 911. I got sucked into the options "game" and decided I wanted a pretty much fully loaded car. Oddly, I finally found a perfect match through my wanted ad here. I thought there was no hope with that, so it definitely surprised me. I turned the out of state car (Texas) into a road trip opportunity with my older son. The 2012 991.1 S had a mere 20k miles on it and appears almost new. The only minor mods it had was tint, black rear logo, black exhaust tips and clear side markers.
On the way back our road trip highlights were Carlsbad Caverns and Kitt Peak Observatory. I'm coming from a 2008 BMW (E92) M3 (and E36 and E46 M3s prior). Wow, this car makes that reasonably sporty one feel like a grandpa's oldsmobile! Although a tiny bit down on peak power, the 500lb weight advantage is fantastic for both straight-line and cornering performance. I had to use a lot of good judgement with all of the "faster Dad, faster" egging on from my son on the trip home. We did have a coupe of good safe "indulgences" here and there. I know he will emulate my behavior so tried to find a good balance between having fun, making some memories and setting a good example, of course with a lot of explanatory comments/warnings. The car makes such glorious noises and pulls like a freight train well into triple digit speeds. The first thing one of my in-laws said back here in San Diego was, "well that's a nice family car" with a totally sarcastic tone. She's just jealous as she drives a minivan... I've already got a slight modding bug going and plan on a backup camera, BMC air filter, IPD plenum, Cobb tune and maybe headers.
Attached is my pickup picture with my son, one all cleaned up after getting home and finally from my first track day (in this car) at Buttonwillow last weekend. What an absolute hoot. The car is so well composed on the track. The stability control is so non-invasive compared to my M3.
I hope I get well into 6 digits of mileage reliably with her.
Thank you so much to this community for all of its many resources and knowledge. I've already benefited tremendously in the car search, general knowledge, modding info and camaraderie.

Congratulations, OP, it's a very nice car and what a great opportunity to bring it home with your son.
I also have an E92 which I picked up last year and love both cars for different reasons.
