Is a manual and I always set the brake and leave it in gear. I realize it's overkill, but it's also one of the many easy things to do I'd regret skipping if something happens. Like washing my hands before eating. Good habits kind of stuff. I can be an airhead, so forming good habits is maybe more important for me than some.

Mine does that even with the parking brake set. Which is odd, now that I think about it.

The lack of a common emergency brake location law amazes me. Every brand is transitioning. In the family we two cars with foot brakes, one car with a hand brake to left of driver seat (944), two cars with a console hand brake, another car with the button on the console, and the 911 has the button under the dash..

When I switch cars I feel like throwing an anchor out the window would be easier.

I've had the car for over 2 years and i still never know push or pull, in the moment...
At least on most other cars the E-brake is replicating the old behavior of a real handbrake. It's generally in the center and you pull it up to set it, push down to undo... Kinda easy to transition.

The way it is on the 991 I want to pull to set it, it's ingrained from years of conventional handbrake use... IMO it's backwards, and poorly located like on a cheap rental car. There was room on the center console. It's like when Porsche did paddles backwards for years...

I suppose the only excuse they have is handbrake turns aren't super useful on a RWD car like they can be on a FWD like a mini cooper...

If you have a foot brake as a reference tho, you push to set & it pulls out to disengage...

It's a good way to remember, and I thank you for it... However I've never had a car with a foot brake outside of a rental Uhaul or crappy rental car... Not the image they should go after ;-)

The electronic parking brake in my wife's X5 and my 911 are opposite movements for setting and releasing.....drives me nuts. Seems like I do it backwards in each car about 90% of the time since I drive both often.

Another "muscle memory" thing I experienced recently.....Wife's X5 and my previous 3-Series have a button on top for putting the vehicle in park, and you actually push up on the gear selector to put the cars into reverse. I've been in a loaner Macan for a week (my 911 is a manual) and every time I go to put the Macan in reverse I put it in park (pushing the gear selector all the way to the top like in BMWs).

Please left us know when you start inserting the Tahoe key on the steering column's left side. That's when we'll all know you are a Porschefile.

I rarely use e-brake. Only while parking on a slope. I hate Porsche e-brake. That said, I hate foot breaks even more. If you like your foot brake at least you remember you need to push to engage. And then you need to remember you do not push to disengage.
I like the good old hand brakes. Not that I used them very often either.

One thing to add, if you are driving a MT since there is no steering lock anymore the ebrake provides a bit more safety.

It's new enough that you leave the key in your pocket & push a button to start it. I've yet to reach for the left side button, but I may one day.

Happens to me all the time. Between my Tahoe and Avalanche, both with the foot brake pedal, my work Ram, also with the foot break pedal, and my girl's Acura, with the electronic switch in the center console, I'm all messed up.
