991.1 vs 991.2

I did a search and could have missed it, but looking for some opinions on .1 vs .2. I am familiar with the differences (move to turbo, PCM changes, etc.), but wondering what opinions exist on which path to take. Would you choose a low mileage 991.1 and sacrifice the .2 improvements, or would you choose a higher mileage 991.2 car? I own a 997.1 Cab now and pondering moving to the 991 Coupe platform and making the car a daily driver.

Appreciate any opinions.

If you test drive both you should easily answer your own question. For what it is worth though I did and I have a 991.2.

I own a 2017 991.2 Targa 4S which I bought new in the summer of 2018 at a discount. It's a very well optioned car in Carmine Red. I was really wanting to pull the trigger on a very slightly used Lava Orange 2016 Targa 4 GTS for a lot less money. Knowing what I know now on how these cars depreciate I wish I opted for the 2016, not only for that reason, but because I prefer NA. The .2 while very quick is really tame unless you drive in sport plus. It's also quiet no matter what mode you're in even with PSE, although you get lots of exhaust pops under deceleration (which is kind of artificial).

For all the right feel and noises, I prefer the .1 but only if it's a very well optioned GTS. I do think the .2 has some aesthetic updates making it a bit nicer in that regard, and the infortainment is an update for sure. The sport button on the .2 is a bit hokie. If looking for a .1or even a used .2, I would also try and find with PCCB. Easy enough to do.

Rear axle steering is nice too.

Test drives could involve a lot more than just the motor.

Best to test drive both. The wife and I did and ended up in a .1 GTS.

Our thoughts are that the car is about the engine, all else is built around it.

Else buy a Tesla and you can win the traffic light races every day.

That’s a tough one. I think for daily driving you will enjoy the .2 more, for it’s available low end torque and easy drivability. To me, the .1 is more a driver’s car, because of the engine. Im very saitisfied with my 991.1, and plan to keep it for a long time. Just my .2 <get it lol

It's impossible to do a search on .1 vs .2 and not turn up a plethora of threads, gang fighting, vitriol abounding, and in general bad behavior.
You could not have seriously searched very well.

Cool. Drove several .2's (TT, T, S, 4S) . First go in a 911.1 4S, SOLD. That 6 piece symphony in back and the build of torque is intoxicating. If you find one optioned as you like, GTS or 4S, with PSE, jump.

If you need/want torque to come in under 2000 rpm, go .2. If you can hang and enjoy the torque build-up for like an additional 300ms (.3 seconds), go 911.1

IMHO.

Good Luck.

Ha ha ha! I agree.

OP: Like others said, drive them both and decide for yourself. It's too big of an investment to not get it right for you. They are both great cars and you can't go wrong. Low end torque in the 991.2 is very addicting though. Sounds good but not as good as the .1. I have a .2 and also a 981 with the NA 3.4 engine. I love both.

Your opinion is the only one that matters and you can't have an informed one until you drive both. I read opinions here for months, and based on other's opinions decided on one car, but changed my mind during the test drive.

I love both. I went with 991.2 but owned a 991.1 (still in the fam). The 991.2 is refreshed in more ways than you think or notice. Lots of small tick tack things updated. 991.2 is faster in every way. That's not to say the 991.1 is slow or a bad performer. In it's own way the 991.1 can be more fun and engaging to drive.

Double edged sword.

I have owned both (991.1 S and 991.2 GTS). Really liked the sound of the S and didn't mind having to work the pdk in sport mode to get the power where I wanted it. Really enjoyed driving it every day. However, my GTS pdk is better than the S. 0 hesitation in any situation. I like the power curve and delivery better. I love the RAS. The car sound is also very good. It's not an apples to apples comparison since the S was more a ~mid spec and the GTS is a high spec, but the updates to the 991.2 make this the choice to me.

Oh boy, here we go again. Let's all get our flame suits on and let's get ready to rumble!

Only if the ride is in a .1. :D :icon107:

A friendly wave to a fellow CT owner. :bigbye:

I envy those who have both, for the rest of us the decision struggle is real...
