Default .2

I felt it was time to trade my 997.2 Targa 4 (approaching 65k miles = clutch, brakes, etc). Great car though! So, I started looking. '15 &'16 991.1 Targas. 4S and GTS. Couldn't pull the trigger. Then...found the NBM 991.2 Targa 4S. First sports car I've ever owned without MT. PDK is awesome... It's easier to drive in traffic...but I miss shifting gears. It's a sports car thing.

Love the 991.2. Safer. More confidant in my driving. More comfortable. Roomier. Lots of stuff!

If you're gonna track the car, do something else. 997.2 maybe. You gonna do Sunday drives? Well now... 991.2 is very hard to walk away from. Very, very nice.

Want sound? Trick out a 997.2! Can't be beat! Wanna stop people in their tracks? Put the top down on your Targa! 991.1 or 991.2. They'll ask you to do it again. A German marvel.

Decide what YOU want. Then don't look back. I do miss the sound of my tricked out 997.2. Not looking back though! Much. LoL!!!

I have a GT4 and a 991.2 GTS. Drove 991.1 and feels slow to me, the same 3.8 in the Gt4 feels tottally different maybe the weight. 991.2 have the right amount of power, and the GTS sounds good, it is not an aspirated engine but nothing to complain.

I came from a 981 boxster.

The .1 feels like a big car in comparison to the boxster. Has same deadstop acceleration hesitation and not that quick. Droning exhuast at low RPMs but sounds awesome revving out. Dated PCM is pretty bad for anything and sound quality poor with bose. Clunky steering wheel.

.2 with all perf options feels more nimble than 981. Way quicker than any car on the road and probably beats a gt3 in a drag race. Tame/comfortable cruising and satisfing howl revving out, though not quite as raw and raspy as .1 GTS (sound symposer and PSE). Nav and sound quality with carplay much better. Looks nicer inside and out.

Single good thing about a .1 generation is the better sounding engine. Initially that was almost enough to win me over, but the other benefits of the .2 settled in after a few days. Its just a better car in all regards (including less cruising exhaust drone). The PDK deadstop hesitation makes the .1 gen feel and be like 5 sec to 60, but the .2 gen is nearly 3 sec...noticable power difference that you'd have to try yourself. Its so fast that the ECU actually makes it boost less in lower altitudes and cold dense air to meet a performance target...lots of potential for tuning if you’re in that kind of thing (fast enough stock for me to not be interested).

Price wise, when i was shopping it was only 10k more to get into a CPO .2 vs .1.

You get a taller center console arm rest (more volume) in the 991.2.. If you want this in a .1 it's extra money. Perfect storage for extra condoms you're going to use.

The low end torque makes the 991.2 a better daily driver.

The 991.2 base model is not that much faster than a 991.1 S. The power delivery is very different, and the torque from the turbos give you a perception that you are going faster than you actually are. If you line up both and do a roll race, it’ll be much closer than you think. It’s the torque build up and push. It’s fun, no doubt about that. Like everyone keeps saying, you have to drive the two.

Bingo. That’s the answer right there. It makes usable power all around town.

Lmao! I think the taller arm rest is worth it alone. I hate how low the arm rest is in the .1.

The 991.2 has better looking door handles (seriously), the exterior headlights and tail lights were tweaked, the front hood was given subtle creases. The gear shifter - thankfully! - remains intact in the 991.2. I'm an NA guy, so 991.1 it is for me but you can't go wrong either way. I'd take either over the 992. #nubbin

Ok, I was looking to buy my First Porsche 10 months ago, 15 991.1 GTS with pdk and 22k miles vs 17 991.2 S with MT and 3k miles.

Came to this board and started a thread about it, of course got different opinions. Test drove both cars and fell in love with the GTS, for a reason I enjoyed driving it much better, the 991.2 S felt smoother to me but the feel and the sound of the 991.1 GTS was intoxicating plus it had the Aero Cup Kit so it looked much better. Price wise they were almost the same, I ended up buying the GTS despite older model and higher mileage, driving both cars nailed it and made my decision easier. As for the PCM I really did not care and the one that I have with Bose and Blue Tooth is more than enough.

I owned a few 991.1s. Liked them a lot but would not think of going back after getting my Carrera T. The torque alone takes things to a different level in terms of DD and fun road driving. And I've been really pleased with the linear acceleration of the base engine with smaller turbos as well as the exhaust note. Overall just a much better package imo and my friend's 991.1 feels slow now in comparison.

not since 1517, when martin luther nailed the 95 theses to the church door in wittenberg, has there started a greater debate.

j/k

get a .1 because everything on the road is a turbo and you want a 911 to be different, right?

Really? The only way you tap into that torque is via a lot of throttle. Either car takes a lot of effort to make go fast. People make the new turbos sound like you're at peak torque just because you're tach is in that range. Use the engine display in the instrument cluster and you'll see what I'm referring to. You have to be WOT to reach peak torque. Just cruising around you're way down on actual torque output. So either car can be driven identically. It's just the .2 power may climb a little quicker when hitting the throttle, although there is a perceptible delay. At WOT driving, the character is far better in the .1 and there's no big loss of torque at high rpms. That isn't to say the .1 is quicker than the .2 because Porsche would never allow that. But this "more torque" argument is really misconstrued.

Drive a 991.2 w/PDK in normal mode with automatic shifts and you'll think you're driving a car with no power whatsoever. Same with top gear roll on at highway speeds. You want it to go fast you need to be in control of the gears and use lots of throttle (sounds like NA, doesn't it?).

Lol. Too true. Or, not since PDK vs MT, air vs water, coupe vs convertible, etc.

The OP will find endless threads on the topic, some of which actually cover the differences pretty well. If you can sort through all of the personal preferences/posturing/etc, you might find some arguments for either .1 or .2 that sound likely to be the position you'll take—but there's no substitute for a test drive to see what you like. It's pretty hard to go wrong with either…

Lets do a meet up this season. We can compare my Dyson to the sound of my .2.
