Default 991.2 or AMG GT

Recently sold my Renntech tuned 13 E63 BiTurbo. It was making close to 700hp at the crank and was crazy fast. I'm now looking for a new(used) ride and have narrowed it down to either a 991.2 or AMG GT. I'm curious to know what kind of HP a Carrera(non S, not GTS) would put down with a tune(most likely COBB). Also curious what it may run the 1/4 mile in.

I ask about the Carrera because I found a couple at a great price but am not sure if I should be looking for an S or GTS. Even considered a TTS but spending a 180k just isn't making any sense. Do all Carreras come with PDK and if not how can I tell if its got it ro not. Thanks in advance for any help... Cheers!

Why would you ask this question in a Porsche forum?

If you’re looking for a 1/4 mile car you’re looking at the wrong car. TTS is it. The 911 is great on a track. Not on a drag strip.

Search this forum and do some research to help you decide, if you are serious and not playing around.

That old mantra isn't really true anymore.... Who knew that a day would come when a corvette would out handle a 911 and a 911 would out drag a vette? Imagine a tunes 911!

I considered an AMG GT before deciding on a Targa - the AMG was too "space shippy" <-- (is that a word?) for my tastes and I just didn't care for the styling of it (especially the interior) vs. the 911. I felt the Porsche just exuded more class all around.

If you want to go fast in the 1/4 mile you are barking up the wrong tree on both cars. Get a Mustang or Camaro V8 car, put a Whipple 2.9 or two 6466 turbos on it and outrun about everything in sight (in a straight line).

The Porsche is more practical, and is a better driver's car. The MB is more exotic, and sounds like a proper exotic.

Pick your poison.

Why not? It's a legitimate question. I'm just curious what kind of power it'll make when tuned and though i'm not looking for a 1/4 mile car i'd like to know what its capable of. No doubt the Carrera is a great car and thats why its one of my options.

I've been checking out the AMG GT as well. It really looks the business.

If you really want to have fun in the quarter mile, try a Tesla P100D with Ludicrous Mode engaged... ask me how I know.

I own a Tesla(s75) and have driven both the X and S P100D with Ludicrous and while all are very impressive they just don't do it for me. Way too quiet for my liking.

This is true. I will say that accelerating in ludicrous mode and having the competing voices of my wife telling me to slow down and my kids telling me to go faster is a soundtrack all its own.

I just sold my AMG GTS to get into a 2019 Targa GTS.

Its hard for me to say what’s better because I don’t have my Targa just yet.

That said, I loved the GTS. I didn’t get rid of it because it was bad. I just have a squirrel brain and like new toys. And ive always wanted a Porsche. To me, it’s the pinnacle.

The AMG got tons of attention and tons of thumbs up. It is far more rare than any Porsche. Though, I expect the Targa will garner similar attention.

That all said, something was missing for me. Yes, it sounded mean and looked incredible. But something was missing.

Bottom line for me. You can’t go wrong either way. Both a winners and if you are driving either, you are winning. Unless you are that guy in his dads lava.

or just get a Tesla.

i perfect to drive, accelerate, brake, accelerate... just straight line speed is not my thing.

look at TTS for crazy speed.... or a tesla.

i looked at AMG GT before Porsche. I picked Porsche for many reasons but most important was AWD for winters. I drive it all year round.

There’s a reason it’s far more “rare”.
