Default New or used Targa GTS

I just sold my R8 and ready to come back to Porsche. I had 14 911 S and a 2014 911 TT. I'm wondering which model will depreciate less. I was looking at a used 2017 GTS coupe. Then my buddy was telling me the Targa GTS is more rare them most 911's and it will retain more value. I was comparing the listings on auto trader and cars guru to KBB and wow. I don't care about the purchase price of a Targa being more. I buy best on cost to own. If the Targa is a better vehicle for less depreciation I'm good. Thoughts.

Gts
private -Fair market
2015 - $89.5 -$92
2016 - $100 - $102
2017 - $106 - $108
2018 - $112 - $115

Gts targa
2015 - $----
2016 - $118 - $120
2017 - $121 - $124
2018 - $131 - $134

You'll lose money on either. How about just buying what you love to drive.

I do not believe your 991.2 Targa GTS prices are accurate. Of course it depends on mileage & options, but you seem to be about 15% or so below actual pricing on them.
As the previous poster said though, buy what you want and enjoy it, they are all great vehicles!

I received some great advice from a very knowledgeable buddy of mine.

The used market for the Targa GTS is very strong. Sure, you will lose money on the "drive off the lot" depreciation. However, because the market is so strong for the these cars, your loss will be minimal. Might as well get the car new and be the only owner.

I appreciate the response. I was actually told the same by a friend who is a big boss at one of the local Porsche dealers. He said it's a unicorn amongst the 911s. There is one allocation (19. I was always against buying new but I guess in this scenario maybe it would make sense.

Whether they're accurate or not, I just wanted to see year to year depreciation. For this example I used KBB. Which ever the App you use the difference from year to year will probably be the same

In that case, the Targa is losing $1,000 more than the GTS when you look at depreciation between 2018-2016 on both cars. Per KBB it would support the GTS is the better buy.

If it's really about depreciation and minimizing financial loss, then get a 2015 gts coupe. Then invest the 30k you'd spend on a comparable targa. Hopefully you know what the differences are between coupe and targa models and 991.1 vs 991.2. Good luck.

Targa GTS for the win! My favorite 911, and the one I voted for with my wallet. If possible, I would de-emphasize the importance of depreciation. Buy what you love and chalk up the depreciation to a life-style investment.

I think a my15 coupe manual trans sunroof delete would be your best buy.

I know I am biased but the Targa is my favorite since it is a coupe with the best rear visiblity with the top up and like a cab with the top down, and it looks fantastic. Here is a place to search and you can change the criteria if looking for a PDK: https://www.carstory.com/cars/make-p...mission=manual

If you really want a Targa that won't depreciate, a pristine 1967 911S might be your best bet.

There goes that dreaded "D" word again...who cares, IDGAF! Buy what makes you happy and 991s are not investments, and don't worry about the next person in regards to options.

Huh? That dreaded "D" word is the reason for the thread. Did you read the original post?

Why is it that all questions about depreciation are answered with the hackneyed, "don't worry about depreciation, buy what you like?" The guy asked about depreciation. He is certainly aware of what he likes. Why can't people just answer his question without all the judgments about how he should make his choice? Cheers!
