Question Painted calipers... poser-ish or ok?

I have a base C2. I am considering having the calipers painted. I simply like the way red or yellow look.

Is painting the calipers equivalent to adding an M badge to a non-M BMW? Is it similar to adding a Turbo emblem to the back of my car? AMG on a non-AMG benz? Fake Rolex? Dying my har? Sock in the trousers?

Advice is needed from the astute membership. What say ye???

I’m sure you’ll get lots of opinions on this. My thought is that if you like red or yellow calipers, then paint them! Who cares what other people think? The only people who will know the difference are Porsche people, and even then only a small percentage will think it makes you a poser. If you’re really concerned about it, then consider a color other than the standard Porsche caliper colors. Paint them orange, or blue, or something unique.

To me, painting the calipers isn’t in the same category as a “turbo” badge on a normally aspirated car.

Do what you like.

Okay changing labels is not good, but appearance items make the car the way you like it.

Paint any color you want. Everyone forgets back in the 993 days (1996-1997) you could order factory calipers in red, black, yellow, and platinum. Long before PCCB and the term poseur.

I'm a big fan of painted callipers simply because most cars come with a single colour which might not be the best with the colour of your car. (like the Bmw blue or gold callipers).
If I had a neutral coloured car (black, gray, white) I would opt for a diff colour then red though, just to stand out more (like acid green or bright blue), red is very standard for sports cars.

But that being said, I also like black callipers, they fit with everything!!!

When I had a base 996 many moons ago I wanted to do the same, bought all the paint and materials, the replacement Porsche sticker with the correct font.....but never quite actually did the deed. In fact the paint is still sitting on a shelf and I came across the envelope with the logo sticker just a couple of weeks ago. That was probably 10 years ago.

Do it if it makes you feel good. The haters will hate anyway.

I did these years ago. Before it was "cool". Then Porsche paints a race car pink, and wins Lemans. Just saying.

Do whatever makes you look at your car and smile, that's why you bought it. I painted my 997 calipers silver and they looked awesome.

You could do this for the 996 cars also. There’s a rennlister on the 996 boards who has a 996 C4S that was ordered from the factory with yellow calipers, before PCCBs were available.

I was thinking about getting my calipers painted as well. So my vote is to go for it!

Just wondering where the best place to get this kind of work done.

Keep in mind the calipers on the base car are considerably smaller therefore, you may not care for the outcome.
