991.2 X51 Carrera S Power Kit - SALE! is it worth it
I have a 911.2 cabrio with rear steering , PSE and chrome tips. I was thinking of getting X51 Kit as it is on sale. Is it worth installing? Is the cost worth the performance? What should the installation cost go for?

I have a GTS and can confirm that the extra power is worth it. The sale price on this kit looks really good. I don’t know about installation costs but the fine print around PCCB is worth reading, if you have it. Search this forum, there have been threads that offer estimates on installation costs.

X51 kit is bigger turbos and a tune.
If you want to stay 100% OEM, the power kit is a decent value, especially since you already have the required PSE and the modified axle uprights included with RAS or PCCB. Installation costs seem all over the map, some dealers reportedly have also given customers a hard time about installing an X51 kit bought elsewhere, so check with your dealer. You might also check with your dealer if they would do just the final step (software load) if you had the parts installed at an independent.
But bigger turbos = more power, plus typically a bit more lag.
A Cobb tune on the mid-size turbos (S turbos) would give you easily the power of a stock-tuned X51 at a fraction of the cost.
Heck, add the X51 engine cover for another $300 along with the Cobb tune and nobody would be the wiser!
(just kidding on that last part)

A COBB AccessPort and tune is $1695 + rear bumper and ECU removal. And that would be the time to install a BMC intake air filter while the bumper is off. So the COBB is going to run a total of maybe $1700 + 600 to 800 + 330 = $2600-2800. But it will likely cost you warranty coverage if anything breaks.
The X51 PowerKit on sale is let's say $6000 plus installation. I paid $5070 last June. A Florida friend told me Suncoast installed his for $1000 for a total of $7000. $7000 is what it cost last Summer.
Anybody going the X51 route should shop around.
Be sure to check the prices at Sunset and any other online dealer stores. My Chicago dealer matched he best pricing I could find. So ask around. I sold my S takeoffs for $3200, so my net cost for the X51 upgrade was $3800 + tax. And my full factory is still good thru June of 2022. And it's plenty more grins with +7% in Hp and +10% torque.

thinking of doing the X51 PowerKit on my 2018 C2S. Not listed anymore on suncoast parts, but will continue to shop around. Can you explain what you meant by "sold my S takeoffs for $3200" - was that the stock turbos you sold? If there is a market for that, makes the X51 power upgrade much more interesting vs having a Tune done and risk of warranty issues.
Thanks!

I considered adding the Power Kit to my 991.2 4S twice. Once when I ordered (SA talked me out of it) and more recently, so I went to the Atlanta PEC and drove a GTS to see if I could tell a difference. My rear tells me there is more power but I could also sense the increased lag. Not a big deal for most 911 owners, but I DD my car and love the quick response. I opted to stay with the OEM turbos.

Gotcha - well after calling Suncoast (and reading the extensive thread) the X51 power kit is no longer available (at least for now) on the 991.2 anyway. I was considering adding a 3rd radiator, which i believe is included in the X51 kit - so was exploring options
Thanks for the note Jay.

i have nothing to back this up, but im fairly certain my C2 with stage II cobb would walk an x51 S.
Also, since the engines are identical across the carrera range, why is the X51 specific to the S? I know I could buy the turbos and put them on my car, so why not sell it that way to us lowly power-hungry base drivers?
