Default 2017 991.2 Carrera S - Problems and Issues? (2019 version)

Hi, Gentlemen - Before I start, allow me to say that I did search and there are some threads that have asked this question, but they all appear to be from 2017. Now that we're in 2019, I was hoping to get an "update discussion" going. Since the introduction of the 992, I have appreciated the 991 even more (didn't realize that was even possible). As such, I'm thinking of buying another 991.2. I have some interest in a 2017 Carrera S that has been offered to me. Since this is the first year of the 991.2, I wanted to see what problems/issues 2017 911 owners have had, and I'm particularly interested in hearing about what problems/issues have persisted over a year or two without being resolved. Thank you in advance.

Mine's a 17 C2S Cabriolet 991.2. No issues whatsoever, except the side windows jitter/rattle in closed position up to roof from road vibration. You can reset easily yourself but this has made no difference. Sure the OPC can make adjustments but has to await next service interval now because of distance to nearest. Unlikely an issue specific to 991.2 and doubt would ever happen in a coupe with hard roof.

I got my 991.2 C2s in June 2016. Had a squeak which was the left rear strut and was fixed. Also had a coolant leak which was fixed. I think at some point the water pump was replaced. Car has almost 9,000 miles so pretty low mileage. No other issues. We leased the car for three years and are planning to keep it at lease end. The new 992 is not that compelling and the C2s kind of hit the sweet spot for what I want out of a sports car.

Mine is a 2017 C2S Endurance Racing Edition, built June 18, 2016.
i bought it new in June with a couple hundred miles on it and added the X51 PowerKit. I had some serous warranty claims with that one.
I'm up to 4400 miles of problem free motoring now and can't find a single thing wrong with it, which is a lot more than I can say about my 2015 C2S manual built Oct 2014 that I traded. TG for warranties!
This one is my 10th Porsche since 1970, and it's the best one by far. Great design, great build. Great street, road, and track car. It has serous muscle compared to my 15 C2S. And it handles far better in extreme driving, thanks to the 991.2 Sport Pkg RAS, PDCC and SPASM, wider rear tires and bigger brakes. Brakes do dust and sometimes screech, but a good hard stop after hitting it up to triple digit speed on a long and curvy exit ramp here fixes the screech. Probably going to do matte Black on the wheels for dust camo.
Truthfully, my 2017 is as perfect as I could ask for.

I'm on my second 991.2. These are the problems that I have faced with them:

991.2 Base Coupe:
  • Next day after delivery, the car had to be reprogramed. Transmission was not working as expected, missing gears and engine without power. After programing, issues were fixed.
  • Rattle in the rear seat area. They replaced the right seat belt mechanism which was producing a metallic noise that was quite loud when going over some bumps.
  • Brake caliper bolts started rusting. Porsche didn't fix it (I sold the car right at the time when I was talking to them).
  • Clicking from the engine compartment that wasn't fixed by Porsche (I sold the car before they could figure out what it was). Afterwards, one of the local mechanics told me they thought it was related to the A/C system.
991.2 Base Cabrio:
  • A/C compressor burnt the first day. Didn't realized until I drove the car out of the Porsche dealer. Porsche confirmed that the compressor didn't bring any oil.
  • I'm starting to see some goop on the front windshield which has been reported that is a problem that is being covered by warranty. haven't talked to my dealer yet about it.

My 2017 C4S had the same issue as dflowerz; an improperly assembled rear strut mount (and mine is also an early specimen born in Spring 2016). I haven't seen anyone other than the two of us report this same problem.

I have plenty of time spent on the road - I've driven about 19k miles so far (and the XPEL PPF on the front-end has been worth the expense). The original PZeros didn't last beyond 9k miles on the rear and I've replaced all four with Michelin PS4s. Three times I've had pebbles get stuck in the calipers (PCCB) and make horrible sounds. On one occasion a #6 screw bounced up through the wheel well and got stuck near a cooling fan and made ticking noises. I think those last two do count as "issues" but they aren't outright failures. I've also needed to replace the windshield after it was cracked by a flying rock.

Edit:
Updating since this thread got resurrected - I sold the aforementioned 2017 C4S about a month after the above post in Feb 2019 (and I still miss it - I loved that car) and got a 2019 TTS (also love this car). This latest 991.2 has, so far as of Mar 2020, been flawless - currently around ~13k miles.

11K miles on my 2017 and I believe I have a water pump failure/leak, which seems to be the most common issue. I cannot open my engine bay because the mechanism has detached, which is also another common issue but hardly concerning except that Porsche won't cover it under warranty (based on forum feedback). Seems to be a pretty solid car.

I have a C2 GTS from July 2018.
From day one the PDK was shifting quite harshly and the car was jerking when creeping forward.
First they recalibrated the PDK but that was not helping. After ~6000 miles they replaced the transmission and the flywheel.
Now it drives like it should
Sometimes i get strange clonking noises when idling. I tried to show them my dealer but they never appear when I’m at the dealer. Typical.

2017 GTS. No problems at all other than the common leaky water pump which was replaced under warranty.

13k of hard driven miles.

Leaking water pump, replaced under warranty. @23k miles now. No other issues other than that I'm in love with this car.

C4S, 1.5 yr old with 14K miles. Minor glitches I have so far ignored: Homelink transmitter occasionally doesn't work , Parking sensor will go off when I stop behind a car at a light (this only happens when the car's been sitting outside in the sun all day), Bluetooth sometimes loses its connectivity, Squeaky brakes (yes, I know this last one is normal, but it's still annoying as heck).

My 2018 base Carrera, which I bought at 1800 miles, had a rattle in the rear right, which turned out to be a strut mount. Both rears strut mounts were replaced under warranty. Chrome trim around glass was popping out. Clips and seals were replaced under warranty.

Does anyone know if the strut mount issue affected suspension performance?
