if I bought a car second hand and wanted to delete the model, how would one proceed to make sure the paint is unaffected by the removal of the badges?

Very easy: use a hair dryer (or heat gun on a very low setting) and warm it up. Then use some dental floss and work behind the letters and paint and they will come right off. If any residue remains you can use Goof-Off on a microfiber and clean and/or wax afterwards.

Just came back from the dealer, who used the factory plastic template to install the letters. They seem a little high to me (not vertically centered), but I looked at the template, and they did use the correct insert - for PORSCHE, without model designation. I guess that's how it was meant to look.

That looks too high. It appears they used the template that includes the lower emblems as well vice the one that is just for PORSCHE.

Looks good IMO. I think the template puts them in the middle of the tail lights not the bumper, I don't mind. I think it would make the bumper look saggy any lower.

Google 991 rear emblem (Images) for an example of how it looks.
